I thought this was funny until I realized how true it was.

Adam Dunn scores on a two-run double by Edwin Encarnacion in the first inning.
CINCINNATI -- On a sultry summer evening when it would seem possible to fry an egg on a sleeping man's forehead, Bronson Arroyo took the mound for the Reds last night and promptly threw 31 pitches in the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The early exertion, with the temperature at 97 degrees and the heat index at 104, would not have been good for a Gila monster let alone a slender right-handed pitcher.
But during 6 2/3 shutout innings on the hottest night in Great American Ball Park's five-year history, Arroyo refused to wilt, melt or otherwise disappear during a 4-0 victory over the Dodgers.

Guardado, Freel going opposite ways

CINCINNATI -- A tale of two seasons unfolded yesterday at two ends of the Reds' clubhouse while two players dealt with vastly different medical news.
The team announced that center fielder Ryan Freel will undergo arthroscopic surgery today on his right knee to repair torn cartilage. Freel talked quietly in front of his locker. He said he understood the procedure could put him on crutches for four to six weeks and end his season.

BTW, with the shutout tonight, I believe this makes 28 or so straight innings that the Trolley Dodgers have failed to score a run.
Harang's pitching frustrates Dodgers
Low-key ace keeps L.A. in funk

CINCINNATI -- Fame on the national level has yet to lay a finger on Aaron Harang, even though he seized the role as ace of the Reds pitching staff almost two years ago.
Being the big fish in a second-division pond such as Cincinnati always comes at a cost in endorsements. Yet the low-key Harang seems content to be another one of the guys in the clubhouse.
"He doesn't ever get any credit nationally," catcher David Ross said. "But that guy is one of the best pitchers in the league."

Bestbuck36;899293; said:Phillips 2 web gems were magnificent! Harang might be the best pitcher in the National League. Yes Peavy, Webb, Penny and some others are having great seasons but Harang is doing what he's doing for the Reds! Don't even think about getting run support or have a chance to win you a game you should lose. For cryin out loud the guy pitches 10 innings of 1 run ball and gets a no decision. He's definitely the shit and with any help at all he could be a 20 game winner, no bullshit. Alas, he'll struggle to get 15 but he'll look great every time out.
Jr looks like he has really started to get better in Right Field also. The defense the guys showed tonight behind Aaron was the kind we hoped they would show all season.
No word on whether the Cincinnati Reds plan to exercise that $13 million option with slugging outfielder Adam Dunn next season (it could go to $16 million with incentives).

Reliever can't hold lead in his return from injury

Umpire Paul Emmel ejects pinch-hitter Adam Dunn for arguing a called third strike in the ninth inning.
CINCINNATI -- The seventh- inning moment had "ready or not" scrawled over it yesterday afternoon in colors as bright as the red seats and green grass of Great American Ball Park.
Cincinnati Reds interim manager Pete Mackanin needed a relief pitcher to protect a 3-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers and to help bridge the gap to the ninth inning, where closer David Weathers waited.
