TREVEYON HENDERSON TOPS 1,000 RUSHING YARDS ON THE SEASON, FOURTH OHIO STATE TRUE FRESHMAN TO REACH MILESTONE

126735_h_1.jpg

TreVeyon Henderson is officially a 1,000-yard rusher.

For just the fourth time in program history, a true freshman has reached the 1,000-yard mark on the ground as Henderson reached the milestone in the second quarter of Ohio State's matchup with Purdue.

Henderson joins Robert Smith, Maurice Clarett and J.K. Dobbins as the only true freshmen to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season. Mike Weber also eclipsed the milestone as a redshirt freshman in 2016.

Tre only having to get 10-15 touches a game and still beating ass is just a joy. The comparison to MoC is fun because we had to lean on him every game. Tre is unworldly talented, but we don't have to lean on him at all. I think we will need him a bit more later in the year, but he'll have fresh wheels and we will be looking back happy that we were able to preserve him in the first half of the season. But on his status among the all time greats...he obviously has a ways to go, but he is the most talented RB I have ever seen in Columbus. He has to just keep putting up the numbers to join that club, but Tre is elite in every category, even blocking.
Take away Tulsa, PSU and Nebraska and he is averaging less than 10 carries per game. Yet has a thousand yards.

Not even done with 2021, and I'm excited to see how this offense evolves with Henderson in year 2. His vision will continue to improve and the conditioning will also help (not like it's an issue, but I still think it's crazy he didn't play last year at all and is doing this). Might see more of a balanced attack next year ala 2019.

Some of these 1-3 yard runs will start turning into 5-10 yarders and the run game might be able to gel earlier in the year. Plus they'll have 3 other very good or better backups.

I love his game but he sure gets dinged up a lot. He's gone out of a handful of games and not returned as precaution.

Next year I bet he's a good 10 pounds heavier (and just as fast) to make sure he's a bit more durable.

Too bad too because on 1 of those Williams' runs he absolutely houses it from 70 yards out if he's in.

I thought he's been pretty durable for not playing his senior season. I figured he'd get dinged up playing a first year of CFB against bigger, faster players. The other RBs have been more dinged up than him.
I like his game in a rotation, and that will keep him healthy as well.

Willams, Pryor and Hayden as backups is some serious depth next season!
