RB TreVeyon Henderson (Official Thread)

Would love to read that, but I'm not subscribing. Was it a positive or negative interaction?

It was good:
And I said make sure you look at me, look me dead in the eye, and I said, ‘Hey man, this is the first time in seven weeks you’ve had any amount of adversity in college football. It’s been a pretty good run for you. You’ve gone seven weeks really without a mistake. This is real life now, this is the real world. You make mistakes and how do you recover? So take a deep breath, relax, you’re fine.’ I said that I trust in you, I believe in you, we all trust in you. Quit pressing and worrying about things, just go play ball. I said, ‘If this is the worst thing that happens in your life, it’s pretty good.’”

When he was done, Alford reached out and patted Henderson on the cheek.

Been discussing Stroud's mental mistakes the past few games so it's only fair to look at TH as well. Both players are freshmen so the mistakes they make now aren't really a surprise. Time will settle things down, or they wont.

The issues on the line may or may not be as glaring as they appear to be at the moment. Could they be better? Yes but so could TH. There are cutbacks and holes just to the left or right of where the plays are designed to go that he's just missing at the moment. If he cutback a couple times vs Nebraska, he's in the open field and we know what happens then. Time and experience will hopefully start to develop the patience and vision to find the creases that are there. He knows what to do when there's a hole and he hasn't made many mistakes at all so I'm confident this will work itself out also, its just frustrating in the mean time as defenses are selling out to stop the run.

In his defense he was helping move the chains late in the 4th quarter. He had runs of 5 yds, 6 yds, 10 yds and 22 yds right before Stroud's fumble. He also caught a pass and picked up some good yardage that set up the final field goal that put us up by two scores. Wish Day would have stuck with the run at that point as it was working.
Take away those runs of 10 and 22 yards and he's at 19 carries for 60 yards, which is just under a 3.2 ypc average. Take away all four of those carries and now he's 17 carries for 49 yards, which is under 2.9 ypc. Not good at all.

That said, I think the OL is what's been a bit off somewhat the last two games.

They showed it multiple times during the Penn state and once during Nebraska but it looks like our guys are going to the 2nd level without making sure the D-line is blocked

We were getting 4 to 6 yards on first down running then went away from it. I think if we just started with it the line and Henderson would've got in a groove save started rolling.

The constant in all three posts which is a big reason for the struggles is the play calling. There's endless amounts of formations and types of runs we can throw at a team so there's no reason to be so predictable but I feel like we have been the past two weeks.

We have tendencies (especially when we motion in a TE), we love the zone blocking scheme, we are showing issues with down and distance with what calls to make (running on 1st down or throwing on 2nd and medium) and then there's all the penalties.

First things first we have to stop taking penalties and we have to be not turn the ball over. Then from there maybe try a little more isolation in the run game? Teams are shooting gaps and replacing pulling OL players so try types of runs that negate that. Also what's been very tough the oast few weeks is we've had issues getting in 2nd and short. We have got to do better on first down to totally open the play book.

Also I love TH but IMO we need more down hill and IMO Teague is the better man for that job. He shouldn't start over TH but if we really want to answer these adjustments from the past few weeks Teague would be a great style back to get involved.

Throwing 54 times when we were winning almost the entire game is pretty bad and that's not going to get the job done over these next 2 months. We have the best offensive minds which is what makes our offense so good. That said we haven't even scratched the surface for how we could combat this style of defense we've faced the last few weeks.

Just have to find the answers and I think we will.

Take away those 19 carries where he had 60 yards and he's averaging 16 ypc on his other runs. Those are Heisman and HOF numbers. (How to lie with statistics)
