What I saw was a guy who looked a little nervous and bobbled the handoff, never really even getting his hands around it. He has looked to me like he usually carries it pretty high and tight - once he actually has it under control.

Hope this fumble doesn't put him back in the doghouse. It really looks like things are clicking for him, and he's running really hard. Urban's meeting with him before the season really seemed to light a fire under him. I hope he stays hungry and continues to get opportunities.

And they went right back to him. They didn't go back to Smith for the rest of the game. I'd say Urban has more trust in Hyde than he does in Smith right now.

I'd really like to see him get this problem solved and earn more carries...he certainly looks like he can be a true difference maker out of the backfield.

Hyde's fumble was a direct result of a human body's natural reaction. Falling forward, your arms are instinctively going to go up. The defenders hands just happened to be there at the exact needed time to pop the ball loose.

Smith's fumble was just looking for the hole before securing the football.

That being said, I want Smith to get more carries as well. When he is in control, he can be just as lethal as Hyde running the ball.

Surprised his thread is buried this morning. This kid is REALLY starting to show flashes, and did a great job taking care of the ball yesterday.

If he keeps taking small steps forward this young man can be big time. Quietly had a fantastic game against the Nits.

Rod's probably the most talented back on the team right now. His running style is somewhere between Robert Smith and Eddie George (not as much power as Eddie, not as elusive as Robert). If he can hang on to the football, he could be the next great TB at Ohio State.

Agree.

It's crazy how much his talent and physical ability just jump off the screen when he gets the ball. That doesn't always translate to viewers, but Smith's ability does. Hyde is a very fine runner and the #1 workhorse. But Rod Smith is overflowing with potential and he's getting closer and closer each carry. Hits the hole like a mad-man, accelerates and then destroys people with his high, powerful steps. Treat to watch.

And he is being very selfless. Remember the play when Rod Smith led the way while Braxton Miller followed him? Rod Smith put a lot of good effort into it. That allowed Miller to gain more than 7 yards more and a first down too! I think if Hyde doesn't go pro this year, he is going to be eclipsed by Smith.

I don't think Smith is going to eclipse a returning Senior - especially one that has given as much as Carlos has and still can give. that said, I'd expect the workload to be a lot more even.
