RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

Junior running back Rod Smith served a one-game suspension for violating team rules last winter and is expected back “if he has a good week of practice and does it all right,” Meyer said.

He will be joining a crowded backfield. Led by senior Jordan Hall’s career-high 159 yards rushing, four running backs played against Buffalo, including redshirt freshman Warren Ball and freshmen Dontre Wilson and Ezekiel Elliott.

“I hope (Smith) does earn the right to carry the ball, because that will free Jordan Hall to maybe help us in some other areas, as well,” Meyer said, referring to plans to use Hall in the hybrid back spot.

To me, it's funny how much bigger Rod seems compared to the other backs. He does seem very effective, though, and I hope he keeps working hard and being a difference maker on the field. Overall, our depth at RB is proving to be quite good.

The coaches probably made the right decision to not recruit a RB this year. I root for Rod every game and i was hoping to see him a lot more, but i will trust the coaches. He has made few great blocks and made whatever he could with the plays he has gotten so far. I trust his time will come and he will do great.

Perhaps I'm the only one who thinks this way but personally I'd love to see Rod earn the starting slot next year. The coaches will give it to the most deserving back and he would have his work cut out for him considering the competition. By winning, it would send a great message. Bide your time and work your tail off. I'd love it if that happened.
