RB Michael Weber (New Jersey Generals)

I was actually thinking about Weber when Zeke lashed out at coaches. Add in Kareem Walkers sudden, odd 180 defection and it makes me think there is something rotten in Denmark that the kids are all very well aware of.

Not going to comment on Weber's tweet, but as per this I keep falling back to the thought that the HC probably shouldn't be saying "We don't redshirt here," when the team is on pace to have 40 players with freshman eligibility next season.

I believe that what he says is that we don't want to red shirt here. Regardless, at least on the surface, Weber's red shirt seems to be at least partly a function of him getting dinged up in practice.

I thought Cooper established that there was no point in red shirting a guy unless they really have no business being on the field. If a player is going to be a star you might as well get what you can from them for as long as you have them. If Weber takes over for Zeke and blows up next year he's only going to be here 3 years, one of which was a red shirt. The only guys you should make a special effort to red shirt are QB's since they are more likely to stick around for 5 years. Even if Gibson was good enough to play this year JT will likely be here for 2 more years so Gibson can get some work at WR for the next couple before having a shot at QB. At any other positions guys are either good enough to play or not, but if a guy is good enough to play as a rook you might as well give them a shot. In Weber's case the early injury might have set him back enough that he wasn't a better option than any of the other RB's or STers on the team. That still doesn't mean that he'll be here longer than 3 years.

Right now, Mike's behind a guy on the depth chart that will probably be a first found NFL draft pick five months from now. And he'll have every opportunity next year to get as many carries as he can win in offseason position battles.
I believe your missing the point. The thought is Weber was implying he was under the impression he was going to a RB driven offense not a 4/5 wide out QB run offense. Not implying anything about playing time himself this year. But that's all speculation based on a tweet we aren't supposed to post or discuss.

Hard to get experience when every game on this Charmin schedule went into the 4th quarter still in question due to a coaching staff and team that failed to do anything but sleepwalk.

Could be that was Mike's point. I'm not sure it would have much validity, though--OSU clearly is an RB-driven offense in my view. Elliott has 1,458 yards rushing through 11 games, and averages over 21 carries a game (despite sitting late in the game of a few blowouts).

Yeah I don't see him transferring but I do think it was a cryptic comment to him wishing he "knew then what he knows now" regarding the offensive identity and his implied support of Zekes comments.

Funny thing is that yeah, in one game it sucked for the RB, but overall Weber has a fantastic opportunity to showcase his ability over the next 3-4 years.

Hopefully it's just a speedbump, if anything.

I'm on the fence about redshirt or burn it for freshmen. If they're a not doubt needed to win, then obviously they play. But I'm not so sure I'm in the camp of just stick him on kick coverage or mop-up duty. I look at Carlos Hyde and wonder if he might have returned for a 5th year. Probable? No. But with the suspension to open the season and the way his senior season ended, I think he would've at least given it some consideration to return. But we'll never know since he got 24 carries his freshmen year. And let's say he still leaves after 2013 when being redshirted. So we missed on on 24 carries. It doesn't look like any of those were meaningful carries. What's the big deal?

I think we've grown too accustomed to seeing players leave early that we expect it to happen with everyone. As I recall, wasn't it a bit surprising when Mike Doss returned? Whenever you have a team with talent like this three things will happen; 1) players who you expect to leave will leave 2) players who you don't expect to leave will leave 3) players who you expect to leave will stay.
