RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

Marlon Lucky, of North Hollywood, CA, is also a 5* back, and no. 18 overall on Rivals Top 100 (no. 3 RB). IMHO, Lucky is a better prosepct - his speed is about equal to Wells, and he has nice moves, good hands as a receiver, and much more size and power than Wells. He has good forward lean; dips his shoulder upon contact; uses stiff arms; can change direction very quickly; and when he breaks away, he's gone. He's the best back I've seen so far, but unfortunately he isn't interested in OSU.
Im gonna have to agree with you. I was very impressed with his film. Looks like a combo between Haw and MoW if you ask me. Quick with a lot of size. The real question is why would USC be going after Wells when Lucky is so close...hmm

In the same article he says his current top 5 is Ohio State, USC, Georgia Tech, Michigan, and maybe Michigan State. So it would appear that the scUM schools would be the primary competition (yet scUM has already received a verbal from stud rb, Kevin Grady).

WHile this is a promising update, IMO, we should not rule out GA tech (coaching connection) and USC (Petey's jet and no. 1 guy talk). It is a long way to go into signing day.

Good point sga. One of the recent articles quoted Wells as saying all of his family wants him to go to OSU. I think we can then assume that they'd let him go to scUM over their dead carcasses. At least that's the moral standard I would set for my family.

I think that quote sounds like he's OSU bound.
It's June 11th - Wells wants to announce on Signing Day next February. Let's not get our hopes up too high too soon.

One of the recent articles quoted Wells as saying all of his family wants him to go to OSU.
The families of Richard Washington, Stanley McClover, and Rhyan Anderson (and probably Fred Davis and Dwayne Jarrett as well) wanted their sons to go to OSU also - sometimes families ties decide the matter, sometimes they don't.

This is what Newberg had to say about Wells

In my opinion, he may be a top 10 back nationally. I think Antoine Smith is the No. 1 back in FL. It's a deep year for RBs. Don't get me wrong, Wells is a very good player but there are many backs I would take over him like Smith, Coker, Grady, Stewart, Harris, Lewis, Baker, etc. I just prefer the bigger sized back and Wells is 170-175 pounds.

Any reason why he doesn't want to camp anywhere this summer?

Well, he basically has offers from everyone and he's already visited 2 of his 3 favorites(Ohio State and Georgia Tech) so he must not feel it's necessary. He did mention he'll be working out this summer and will take some official visits this fall.
