RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

Wow, this kid doesn't need blockers. He's making tough competition look like JV players out there. Unbelievable speed, ability to shake off arm tackles, and ridiculous body control and juking ability. This kid is going to be special.

Mo almost makes me want to see the staff bring back the ol' Cooper stretch play...that kind of HB read/zone block play that we had no idea how to run during JC's time here, but has become pretty popular with teams like Golden Gophers in college or the Dolphins in the NFL. Giving a kid like Maurice, with his speed, vision and, like jwins said, body control a chance to read a play and set-up his own blockers would be exciting...

He looks like a shorter Ginn playing RB.

Just outruns the other 21 on the field. Serious cutback ability when necessary.

One clip, he takes the handoff, straight up the middle. He goes by the MLB so fast, the MLB almost doesn't see him and only has enough time to stick his hand out. Looked like he was trying to give him 5 on his way to the end zone.

well Conley did say that he was the best RB he had seen in quite some time. all the reports that I have read, say he has not disappointed in practice/camp either.

oh the speed we are going to have on offense this year. its unimaginable. if we dont score 25-30 points per game, there is something wrong.

The more I watch film of Wells, I get more and more excited about what he could do for us out of the spread formations. This kid reminds me of Warrick Dunn coming out of high school. He is very talented but the thing that sticks out for me on his videos is his ability to change directions on a dime. Unbelievable.

If we do not move the ball this year on a consistent basis, someone needs to be fired.

Are you hearing something from camp? I have not heard too much news on him since camp opened Sunday. If you have heard something...by all means...share!
I hope I'm wrong, but what I read was how everyone was raving about the way he was performing this summer, in terms of pre-camp. I'd glad to be wrong and have more updates that he's been impressive in camp (I think he will be, it will be picking up the playbook and blitzes taht will be tough for MWells)

winslow...good point....historically, young backs have problems picking up the blocking scheme. I see Wells being used more in the spread formation this year than the traditional I formation. Look for Pittman, Haw to get the tough inside yards.
Hopefully Mo can pick it up fast b/c I hate to have to see him go out if he is running good b/c he can't block very well.

I think that is probably why we Pittman didnt get as much pt as he could of last year.

This is what I was referring to. It has been posted several times on here [I will try to find] that he was exceeding expectations in the "pre-camp"/practices. JT even singled him out in an interview on the O-Zone about one of the incoming guys who could contribute this year. I have also read that Duane Long's contacts inside how stated the same thing. Maurice is the real deal.

I agree blitz pickups and playbook will be his biggest challenge. I imagine they will make it simple for him, at least in the beginning. I hope they dont only use him on 3rd downs, I think that would be a waste.

3rd down wouldnt be very smart b/c of picking up blitzes on the most likely of passing downs. If anyone plays on third it will probably be one of our fbs to help with the blitz.

The credit should go to SIMV, he brought it up during a conversation we had this morning... can't wait until more practice rumblings emerge about this kid.

i said it a couple pages ago, and i'll say it again. any kid who leads the state of Florida in rushing with 3000+ yards and 30+ TDs, as a JUNIOR, is as good as they get. i won't be surprised to see him starting by the end of the season...
