RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

Wells doesn't describe his style as "finesse"? I wonder if we're not seriously underestimating this guys impact?
I wonder why people think he's some speedy gonzalez that can't take a hit. "he is illusive but can't handle big ten football." right.....like any of us have seen him play.

however, i think that it is pretty safe to extrapolate his H.S. accomplishments into success at the next level... the kid barely missed being voted Mr. Football of Florida as a Junior, a feat that has never before been accomplished... he rushed for 3,000+ yards and 31 TDs as a Junior, a feat which had not been accomplished since Emmit Smith, a span of nearly twenty years... he rushed for 1,900+ yards and 20+ TDs in only NINE GAMES as a Senior at the highest level of one of most football rich states in the country... Bill Conley offered him a scholly without even consulting Coach Tressel, citing the fact that Maurice Wells is the best prospect he HAS EVER SEEN... i don't know about you guys, but when a guy like Bill Conley, who has seen LOADS of phenomenal athletes, states that this kid is the best he's ever seen, i'm pretty much inclined to take his word for it...

he already had the playbook before he graduated, and has been studying hard....he is already in Columbus, and is participating in the 7-on-7 drills... of course, i am by no means the authority on this subject, but in all honesty, i wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he becomes the starter before the end of the season...

There has been a serious buzz about this kid since he hit columbus (as in those who've seen him play, not us obsessed fans who are merely guessing)... we'll see if its an issue that he's small, but apparently he's not short on talent at all.

I've seen him play... he doesn't shy away from contact, but on the other hand he doesn't look for it either. Again I like his speed and explosiveness and what his impact is remains to be seen. I'm not branding the kid for anything cuz he's #3 on the depth chart right now and he has to work hard, but if he does what I've seen him do before then he won't disappoint.

my point exactly....even though i misspelled ellusive. I think he will be amazing and I can't understand why people don't expect as much as I already do from him. Those that state he might be too small for big ten football are either repeating what they heard from somebody talking out of their tail......or theyre talking out of their tail.

If the kid backs up his words on the field of play -- watch out. We could be looking at a 3 RB rotation earlier than anyone hoped for:
"I have great speed, endurance and agility. I'm very solid and have a mix of power and speed. I want to run my routes better and improve my catching in the backfield. I'd also like to put on some weight."
The other thing I always remember is that USC wanted him -- diss PC all we want round here, his recruiting goals are no joke.

With luck that anon-B10 coach who claimed there was no running game in Columbus will be eating his words quite soon.

I share that attitude about wells Bn27 I too think Wells can really contribute THIS YEAR. When I saw him play he really was able to find the hole in the defense and just EXPLODE Through and I think he'll take maybe 1 or 2 games to get things down like (game speed, and game preperation) but after that he'll be competing for that RB position. I wish him, Pittman, and Haw luck!!

GO BUCKS!

jus listened to the Bucknut Radio hour and its been said that Mo Wells is faster and stronger than they though! lol DANG we knew he was very fast, but who knows maybe Wells can take soem early playing time! I especially like how they said he's tougher than they though also! Can't wait to see this kid play.

Do people really doubt this kid can step in and play this year? Pittman and Haw are two outstanding athletes, but I don't know that they've ever been accused of having the talent to play the RB spot like this guy.

It's gonna be Wells & Wells a year from now.

Considering Holmes will be the only senior receiver next year(I think) and no graduating QB's unless one were to have a breakout year and go early (still many left) our total offensive package in 2006 should be pretty amazing adding the Wells-Wells combo
