RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

I want OSU to land Maurice Wells as much as the next guy. However, if he doesn't select the Bucks, it wouldn't hurt in the recruiting of Chris Wells next year.

Not landing Wells in this class would be a major blow. We aren't in real good shape with any other back out there and we only have 2 scholarship backs returning next year and one of them hasn't played a down of college football. Anderson Russell gives us some flexibility at the RB position but landing Wells is extremely important. While not landing Mo Wells may help with Chris Wells we're not currently in a position to think that's a good thing, IMO.

Agree, BuckNutty. We should always be four-deep in RBs.

There should always be a couple of viable backs, getting meaningful reps, and one or two serving their apprenticeship or redshirting and running scout team.

A couple of injuries can disable an offense, if we're not sufficiently deep.

Running Back is unique. A pair and a spare leaves me nervous.

A pair and a spare, that is what we want. Woody had the formula down.
That formula works great for positions where we have some interchangeability, like linemen, but I feel a little naked (metaphorically speaking) with only three running backs, which can't readily and effectively be substituted by someone from another position (though Brandon Joe might argue with that.)

Considering our current TB depth in conjunction with our proclivity to run the ball, failure to sign a top TB this season is absolutely inexcusable.

Um, we can land Maurice Wells AND Chris Wells in my opinion. Not saying that it will be easy, but Wells can come on board and especially if he redshirts, he'll be two years removed from the other wells and will be workign with a very short list even if Maurice Wells signs this year. I mean Pittman and Haw hopefully will be great, but there's no guarantee they'll be unbelievable, so Chris Wells should see a good bit of time as the new guy getting secondary carries at OSU behind Maurice Wells, and then will leapfrog into the foreground after Maurice heads to the NFL.

I think we have a very legitimate shot at winning the national title next year. I dont' know that we will, but we'll be an up and coming program with the ability to be a repeat contender the year after that (sure we'll lose some key defensive starters, but we'll also have returning experience on offense, etc.). Chris Wells could be very excited to sign on and become the next featured back on OSU's team.

I agree to an extent. But I still understand that not every kid has a dream of attending OSU. Mo Wells has grown up awful close to Georgia Tech. If he goes there, I can't fault him for it.

I know it is Lemming, but he does have Maurice at 5'11" 185 4.35. Could he mess up on measureables? If not, those are alot nicer than I have seen on other sites. Plus, looking at some photos of him on Rivals, he is built like a tank. I think the 185 is really legit. He would still be labeled as a speed back, but you have to like that.
