RB Maurice Wells (Official Thread)

He will announce on TV on NLOID. He could decide well ahead of his announcement. Recently HH assessed Wells' chances of deciding on OSU at 80%. I doubt OSU would promise a recruit exclusivity for a position, especially RB. If I were Wells, my main concern would be who is in the program ahead of me, not who was entering the program with me (except OL of course).

I don't think the staff would promise exclusivity either; certainly not in terms of seeing the field, and probably not in terms of recruiting. But without making any such promise, I wonder if they might not demonstrate dedication to a recruit that they really like, and feel pretty good about their chances with, by holding off on other potential kids at the same position. At least, that's one of the explanations for the fact that they seem to be holding off with other highly regarded backs that have expressed an interest in OSU.

I'm not sure I would agree with the competition assessment, in terms of the number of players in the pipleline ahead of you vs. those coming in at the same time as you. That would be the case if a kid is dead certain that no other co-recruit can be as good as he is.

Another angle here if OSU decides to wait until NLOID and take their chances with Maurice could be that the staff must feel good about the OTHER Wells (Chris) for the next class.

With Haw and Pittman on the depth chart already I would not be scared if OSU held the line for their first choice at RB this year. If the staff thinks Chris Wells is coming to OSU then I can certainly understand why they are basically taking aim on Maurice and letting the other candidates in this class slide by. Perhaps the staff has decided Maurice is the only can't miss back on the board right now and taking anyone else isn't worth the risk of spooking Chris Wells?

Am I crazy?

Could be (and I know next to nothing about Chris Wells). If it turns out however, that Maurice Wells decides at the last minute to go to GT (or, God forbid, SC), and in the meantime, OSU didn't make any other heavy hitters feel wanted enough to bring them in, I'd feel a little uncomfortable with the status of the tailback pipeline, regardless of what is in the works for next year.
