RB Jordan Hall (Official Thread)

What a pleasant surprise. As others on this thread, thought he was a 'throw-in' with TP. Well, he seemed to find the holes and exploit them. Not sure when, but he turned the corner when I thought he'd get bumped out of bounds. Then I thought I heard Berry's name mentioned. Would have thought that that would have put the 'shirt' on Berry for this year, anyone have thoughts? Martin got some carries, so it appears there's plenty of backs out there. More than a 'pair and a spare' as the old saying goes.

I actually believed that he'd be one of the next great CB's, but after the Toledo game, I think that is squashed. Nice to see the offense jell, came one week late, but that could/should set us up for the rest of the season and another BCS run. Redemption against USC in the Rose?

Berry didn't play vs. Toledo, he is banged up. Look's like he will redshirt, because he need's to get healthy...

Buckeye Leaves: Freshman Jordan Hall helps give OSU's offense some ground strength | Ohio State Buckeyes - cleveland.com - - cleveland.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In the second half against Toledo, freshman Jordan Hall got his chance, and on three straight handoffs, he seemed to find holes that weren't obviously there, gaining 10, 9 and 17 yards in one sequence.

As a true freshman, he's shouldn't be asked to serve as an every down back. But at 5-10 and 190 pounds, he's about the same size as No. 1 back Dan Herron, and given how the season has unfolded for the running game, Hall should start earning some carries before the fourth quarter.

I said it during the game thread Saturday, but it bears repeating: Jordan Hall showed the best feet of any of the three backs. I thought he had better vision too. I thought the cutbacks have been available for Boom and Zoom also; they for whatever reason haven't taken them. Hall showed the best balance. Kid looks like a player.

...I haven't seen an OSU back cut back and spot holes with that kind of speed since Pittman... maybe Clarett...

Some guy named "Beanie" is on line one. He'd like a word.

...I'd really like to see him get some time against a better opponent, he looked very explosive...

Completely agree on this point

How was his blocking? I'm pretty sure I remembered at least one time Hall struggled picking up a block and Pryor was forced out of the the pocket. Overall though, thought he ran well.

Key point that will determine how much PT he gets this season. If he can read and pick up his assignment on blitzes, he will start getting quality minutes.

I rewatched the game, and the one block he missed, while playing in the 1st quarter, was on the play where TP threw his first INT. Hall missed his guy and ended up pushing him directly into TP as he was about to throw.

Can't wait to see what he brings to the table once the blocking issues are ironed out, along with a stronger grasp of the play book! I absolutely love his style of running.

Hall is definitely a gamer and reminds me a bit of another #29 (iirc) Pepe Pearson. I really liked his agressive style of running, quick feet, burst through the hole and vision in his limited time against Toledo.

Gotta love our future RB corp after Boom and Zoom leave with Hall, Berry, Hyde and Smith.

I think as of right now? you could make a case for Hall as the best ?runner? we have on this team. Not disrespecting the talented guys we have and I?m not saying he?s the best pure RB, but I think a lot of us, myself included, didn?t really show Hall a lot of love during his recruitment when we had guys like Berry and Hyde coming in and Herron and Saine (who was getting talked about during his work in the Spring)? Hall was almost an afterthought! He?s been a HUGE surprise and I really enjoy watching him when he?s on the field when he has the ball in his hand.

He reminds me of a Jonathan Stewart/Ray Rice? Looked at as a smaller back, but he?s built like a freakin? truck!

I am confused about Herron. I was sold on Herron after last year that he was going to be a great back and I think he still can, but he?s gotten off to a MUCH slower start than I thought he would. He really hasn?t stepped up and claimed the RB spot in my eyes at all. Saine, who Beanie himself once said would go down as one of he best backs in OSU history, has looked very good when he?s in and as I said above, Hall has been a nice surprise!

Someone mentioned Herron?s cuts? There was a play during the Toledo game that we reviewed a few times after it happened and Herron literally ran right into the back of either Boren or Brewster at the goal line. The hole didn?t close, it simply was never there and the push from Brewster and Boren didn?t seem great so I don?t think he was trying to push his was in to the end zone?you could have told me that he hit the ?hole? with his eyes closed and I wouldn?t second guess it at all. I know it?s easy for us to watch things develop or see it from a camera and not field view and say they should have done this or that, but it was pretty clear that there was no hole and Herron should have tried to bounce it outside.

I do feel Herron is the best complete back, but I really wouldn?t be surprised to see Hall or Saine step up and take that title away by seasons end if things keep going this way.

Not matter what, I still love our set of backs and love what Hall has brought to the stable.
