Great that Jordan is getting a 'try-out'. My question is - what is the difference between a try-out and an UDFA contract. Both are 'at will' and can be terminated during a practice. Or is the food chain: 1) tryout; 2) UDFA contract; 3) developmental team; 4) 'making the team' for the year? Anyway, at least Jordan and others gets a shot. Ellie, how do you access the emoticons? Thanks and Go Bucks
UDFAs get a contract and a signing bonus. Each team has a little over $80,000 to split among all their UDFAs, so that probably won't amount to much more than about 5 grand per player. But 5 grand is better than nothing, and there's at least a slim possibility a couple teams could get in a bidding war on a UDFA giving the player a bit of leverage on choosing where to sign based on either the bonus money or projected competition to make the roster or practice squad.
A try-out is just that: an audition. You're there on your own dime praying to be invited back for fall camp to get on the practice squad.
