RB Jaamal Berry (Transfer to Murray State)

Okay well how about this...he might have held them out so he can play them against USC without them racking up too many snaps (1 game versus 2) as to where they can still be redshirted?

[sarcasm]How bout TP and Jamal switch jersey numbers and then we line up TP at QB..... but he is number 4 so the defense gets all confused thinking its the wildcat. But we surprise them by passing. Then later, Berry will be at QB wearing #2 and they will think it is a pass play....but then we run the wildcat.[/sarcasm]

Seriously...all I said (in terms of play calls) was maybe they run a screen or a shovel pass to Berry.

And in terms of the redshirt issue, MillianiBuckeye already corrected me on it. And that was over an hour ago. There is no need to pile on, which is something I'm noticing you like to do a lot. I get that you were making a funny, that's cool. I get that your using sarcasm quotes, in case your hastily preparing a response.

Let's just get the thread back on topic, I for one hope Jaamal gets the chance he's been talking about.

I originally was set on us redshirting this guy. However, we are Ohio State and we will have no problems getting running backs. If the guy can help the team this year, why worry about 2012? Its going to be tough going through the big ten this season with only 3 rbs. Esp, if 2 are less than 200 lbs and the other always has major injury problems

While I don't think you should be set in stone on redshirting him, I don't think we should play him just to get some experience in mop-up time. If we NEED him fine, but if we can make it through the season without him, then let's keep the RS on him.

Agreed, that's kind of what redshirting is for, if you NEED them, you can always burn the shirt, that goes for any player.

I've heard Tress say (a couple of years ago anyway) that it is ultimately up to the player (assuming he is good enough to get into the rotation) as to weather or not to play as a true freshman.

You could make that three with JB, and he's more banged up than the other two (even Saine, too) this year so there's no need to make him be the first to go down.

Hopefully he'll get fully healed and be able to produce this year. It's exciting to bring a new weapon out in the midst of a season.

While I fully subscribe to that theory for the trench players, I'm not sold on that argument in the skill positions. More than the trench guys, the skill position players have a tendency of not coming back for the final year. I say play them if and when they're necessary.

I'm looking forward to seeing Berry play this year.

I don't think we'll be seeing him this season. Tressel said on his radio show a couple weeks ago that if you're getting by at a certain position and it gets near mid-season its better to red shirt a player. I think Tress is satisfied w/ Boom, Zoom, and Hall at this point.
