I don't know, that Chris Johnson comparison was a little better than Mr. Sayers. Gale Sayers was a one of a kind RB!

Johnson is also an excellent comparison.

You have to see Berry in person to really understand just what a talent he is, and going by that, I'd say Sayers is the closer comparison. The videos can't do him enough justice.

I don't really see 4.4 speed but the kid runs hard. Personally he reminds me of Jeremiah Johnson from Oregon.

I don't see 4.4 speed either. Thankfully our boys over at Scout timed him at a 4.31. Berry did admit to dropping lbs to run that speed, but I'd assume he's still 4.4 range.

God, I hate forty time arguments.

4.31 is stupid fast. He plays like a 4.5 guy, that's all my point is. That's nothing to be ashamed of though, as 4.5 is plenty fast.

I'd say he is faster than 4.5. 4.3-4.4 is about where he looks. No doubt he is a burner but his best asset is his explosiveness in my opinion. He cuts on a dime and explodes out of his cuts and accelerates to where he is going. Can't wait to see him suit up.

Man that's a heck of a comparison, I'll take your word for it since you've seen him up close. I'm getting even more excited to him on the field. I take it he works well either in the I or in the spread too

Plays like a 4.5 guy? Where do you see that? You have got to be kidding me. His straight line speed is faster than 4.5 and he "plays" even faster than his straight line speed. Look at his cutting ability and the way he EXPLODES out of his cuts. And after he cuts he still separates from dudes so easily.

I also love how tough he is. He won't always run around you, if he has to he'll run right over you!!

Dude, totally agree! He makes defenders look as if they are jogging. He is so shifty, and as soon as he makes a cut into the open, he's gone. In a recruiting video I've seen him in, in a workout it looks like, he is so shifty and had good hands. I think he has all the tools to become special, and get a lot of PT as a freshman. Can't wait to see this kid play!

That kid is quick!!! Forget B.S. forty times ran in shorts that are hand timed. I watched the UA game and he was incredibly quick...one of the top 2 quickest players there...He and Debose have some serious jets. He reminds me of the kid from Cal...quick and cut on a dime...a little shake and bake. He will be great on option plays, wheel routes , swing passes, and shovel passes...nice change of pace.

How anyone can say this guy is anything but extremely fast is beyond me. I said it last summer when watching his films and I'll say it again....the kid appears to be as naturally skilled as a running back as any I've seen films on (not that many). Just watch his uncanny knack for cutting back into wide openness from a high-traffic area. Watch his natural skill at pausing and hesitating to allow blockers to set up for him. Watch his incredible burst off the butts of those blockers...usually into a foot race against fast guys with good angles on him.

I'm as excited about Berry as any running back we've had since Clarett. He's not Beanie, but he is a totally different kind of back that could compliment a power game. And, by the way, he appears to have a little bit of power when he needs it and a mean streak on the field.

I remember getting excited about Mo Wells signing with OSU. But that was mostly due to the fact that we were in a RB drought at the time and getting a big name from Florida broke the drought. But I wasn't overly impressed by his film. He seemed fast...but it was mostly in straight line sprints up the gut. Berry is a totally different kind of runner that finds a seam or, if one isn't found, makes one with some pretty stout power running.

As good as the young running backs are, I think we need to realize that they are true freshman playing in the Big Ten. And that will be a huge step up in competition. And the guys ahead of them are in better shape and knowledgeable of what it takes at this level. Don't expect a lot from them early.

I believe when people say he isn't THAT fast, they don't see him as 4.31.

Keep in mind, Ted Ginn ran a 4.31 as his NFL combine 40 time. Regardless of whatever slow or fast the track was, that is the general type of player you're comparing him to when you're talking about 4.31 forty times.

I see Berry as a 4.45 type guy. He gets to top end speed incredibly fast, although I don't think he has that incredibly fast top end gear to pull away from cornerbacks. Berry's strength is his vision, shiftiness, burst, and general toughness. In a sense, he reminds me of a larger, faster Mike Hart, and I mean that in the best possible sense you can talk about.

4.31 with little to no training leading up to the combine, and still being injured. 4.31 is not unrealistic for Berry. Ted Ginn is not a 4.31 guy.
