Bill Conley seemed to be under the impression Berry was a soft verbal and was shopping. However, Conley is part of ESPN Scout Inc., and the entire outlet may be clueless.
Berry could destroy the Big Ten (if he realizes his potential).
Yes, Berry could do that. He is going to have a better offensive line at Ohio St. than he will at either a place like Ole Miss or Florida. And his speed is rarely seen in the Big Ten. I have rarely seen a runner come out of South Florida with as much ability above the waist to 'shake' off tacklers like flies or even carry them on his back. That was very much evident in Palmetto's playoff game Friday night and you could hear it from people in the crowd. Very entertaining. I heard people coming out of the Southwest side saying wow, that kid's the most amazing running back I've ever seen, it takes 3 guys to bring him down.
If he has designs on going to the NFL (he does), Ohio State is going to give him that visibility week in and out, plus the playing time to do so. Would anyone doubt here that Beanie is one of the most televised, if not the most televised RB in college football right now?
Now, Mississippi certainly doesn't get coverage. Even here in Florida, UF as it is known doesn't get week in, week out coverage nationally like OSU does. It usually comes one one of those regional channels like Sunshine Network or Florida Sports Channel. I usually always see OSU show up locally on the major networks. Yes, UF has a crowded backfield.
As far as Scout, nobody's perfect and that goes for Scout. A lot of the kids down here want to take trips (some have really never been much out of South Florida). You would, too. I knew some kids down here growing up and even though they were committed to going to a certain school, they wanted to see the world, especially many of those who come from underprivileged environments. I don't blame them one bit. It means the world to them.
