RB Ira Guilford (Official Thread)

Ira was also a running back in high school, and a lot of schools recruited him as such.. so to expect that he could play the TB position isn't to far off...

He did not produce when we needed him to, then he went off and got kicked off the team..

What more to say... what more to say....

There will be at least three players from the Garden State, because as previously reported, safety Antwine Perez of Camden, N.J., committed to the Trojans on Wednesday over Michigan. He's listed as the 37th-best player in the nation by Rivals.com and joins linebacker Brian Cushing and receiver Dwayne Jarrett.

But Perez might not be the last Jersey native. Former Ohio State tailback Ira Guilford, who wanted to enroll at USC but could not get accepted academically, is attending El Camino College in Torrance with the intention of transferring to USC.

Guilford wants to play safety for the Trojans.
"He hosted me on my visit to Ohio State, so I've known him a while," Jarrett said. "There's going to be a lot of guys from New Jersey here."

I agree. All talk of second chances notwithstanding, USC is being blessed with the ability to get all manner of top flight recruits each and every year. They surely have no need to take what would be a pretty long shot (based on past character issues).

I wish Ira Guilford well, wherever he ends up. Simply cannot see that being on the USC campus. Perhaps all this dalliance with the Trojans will raise Ira's stock sufficiently that he can find a home on another team.

A kid who can't stay out of trouble in Columbus OH is going to get his act together in LA.?

As we saw first hand with MoC, some people just can't stop making incredibly poor decisons. Looks to me like someone is fast tracking the Clarrett school of how to be fucked for life prior to age 25.

Oh well, as judge Smails said..."The world needs ditch diggers to."

The guy mugged and assaulted a fellow student, and Petey is giving him a scholarship at USC. What a joke. Not like it isn't unreasonable to give people a second chance but what he and LI did was horrible, maybe a full ride at Tri C. IMHO

Guilford clearly made an error in judgement and should be held accountable - which he has been. But from what I recall he was more 'along for the ride' than the instigator of the incident and he has no other similar charges. His 'character flaw' was that he gave in to peer pressure and did something really stupid - not that he went out looking to mug somebody. The incident cost him a year of eligibility plus whatever penalties the judicial system imposed. I would love to see a list of the football players who have been charged with assault or even better the list five times as long of players who committed assault and skated.

Here's someone saying Guilford is attending a JUCO in California:

Anyway, here's more on USC's "Tunnel of Love" with New Jersey:

Safety Antwine Perez of Camden, N.J., committed to the Trojans on Wednesday over Michigan. He's listed as the 37th-best player in the nation by Rivals.com and joins linebacker Brian Cushing and receiver Dwayne Jarrett.

"He hosted me on my visit to Ohio State, so I've known him a while," Jarrett said. "There's going to be a lot of guys from New Jersey here."

Running backs coach Todd McNair is also a New Jersey native and recruited Perez.
