RB Ira Guilford (Official Thread)

So now that two convicted former Buckeyes have been excused from OSU (Guilford & Clarett), is there any word on what Guildfords buddy (forget name) is planning on doing since he was convicted in th e same crime? Alsop, any word on the Al Dukes case?

Irizarry is enrolled at YSU and is not playing football at this time, last I heard.

Looks like Ira's done as a Buckeye.

So methomps -- what's the feeling among the Trojan faithful about the value to the program of bringing Ira on board?
My thought..

They can't seriously be going "Well.. even though he was thrown off the Buckeyes team... he's still worth a scholarship"

Especially with a guy who couldn't produce on the field when he was around.

Very divided opinions. Some don't see the need in accepting a player with that kind of baggage, some point to the reclamation projects we've taken previously and say that Pete is smart enough to decide if IG is going to work out.

Also, GarryP of WeAreSC reports that IG is also looking at several SEC schools, although he didn't offer specifics

Methomps -- what you and LLoydSev both said rings true. I'd be very surprised if Ira gets a second chance at USC. Frankly I find the suggestion IG is looking at SEC schools a little confusing. Whoever IG's trying to court below the Mason-Dixon line, my guess is he can strike Vanderbilt of his list.

Like Jaxbuck said -- 1-AA and a slice of humble pie might better fits IG's needs. (No year out needed for one).

I asked this kiddingly in another thread, and now I'll ask it seriously: If IG transfers to another program, does that conviction get counted against the new team, or does it stay with Ohio State.

I know this sounds sarcastic, but if that new team doesn't get criticized for taking a known criminal, we will know there is bias against Ohio State.

This kid doesn't have the talent for a big time program to take such a risk on him. USC would be crazy to take him.
Well he was only a freshmen when he played at tOSU and he was out of position. he was ranked the number 7 safety coming out of high school so I think you are making a bold statement when you say he doesnt have the talent.

USC won't take Guilford, per the LA Daily News:

http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,200~28543~2789365,00.html

No Guilford: USC is not expected to accept former Ohio State tailback Ira Guilford as a transfer. Guilford was considered one of the top high school safeties and wanted to play safety for the Trojans after spending several days on campus last week. USC decided not to offer a scholarship, sources said. Ohio State suspended Guilford last May after he was arrested with another player for mugging a student, and he did not return to the Buckeyes. Guilford was sentenced to two years' probation and 45 days of house arrest after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault in October.
