Premeditated assault and robbery on a fellow student by a physically superior male is criminal in every respect and carries a heavy penalty beyond probation by a court. This clown has no 'right' to return to a sport program. I even question his return to campus as a student without a looooooong, "timeout" for bad behavior...like a 2 to 3 year ban. If he wants to go to some other school that will accept him, fine.

It's amazing that people use that old, tired phrase, "I'm sorry and I want to put this behind me and move on." Gag, vomit.

Hmm,

I think that AFTER the civil authoroties are finished with him, and he's on probation- he may be allowed the opportunity to walk on. I have nothing to back this up- other than vague memories of a presser where Coach Tressel said he would wain until things settled themselves out and see about it.

I think Coach Tressel's philosophy of " it's what you do after the lesson" that will come into play here. It would not be off the path for Ira to be allowed to Walk On to the team in the spring. He has University requirements that would have to be met...but I could see this happening.

Just not on scholarship. Choices do come with consequences.

I agree he should not be given his scholly back. If he earns it back fine. I think Ira is taking the high road. It would be EASY for him to transfer to another school and put all this behind him. I thnk he is being man about all of this and he is showing a lot of character by doing so. He is willing to face the music and face people who are more holy then Jesus himself to be a Buckeye. I am sorry but that speaks volumes to me!!!

Also he plead guilty to assault but was cleared of anything to do with the robbery. I am willing to bet there is more to the story then what we all know, and I agree his actions were terrible, but he is not saying oops I made a mistake lets move on. He is taking a very man like stance in his actions and I think the whole person should be judged and not that one mistake.

I am sure this is an agree/disagree type of thing with little grey area, but I really do not understand how people can allow drunk drivers a second opportunity and not Ira. Driving drunk is premediated, just like the assualt. Hell driving drunk is like assult with a weapon. The rationale used by some I just do not get!!

Bottom line is I hope he gets an opportunity to be a productive individual and he truly has remorse from what he did. I really hope he does not have to give up on a dream because of 1 mistake.

Man maybe I should be this dudes personal cheerleader..hahaha. Like I said I just feel very strongly about this.

I've heard he's still at OSU and Tressel left the door open for his return if he shows the effort in and out of the classroom. I know he had academic problems and that is what will ultimately sway Tressel on this issue. Word is, he could very well be with the team for spring practice.

I have kept asking what his status was because when he left the team it was my understanding that the door was still open. Based on what I know of the events there is no reason this kid shouldn't get a second chance. I am also surprised and pleased that a kid that far from home stayed at OSU.

This would also put a quick end to the speculation over RB depth.

IF it should happen it would be my understanding that since this was not an official NCAA suspension this could essentially work as RS year. Anyone care to correct me on that?

Not sure the answer to Oh8ch's question. But in that regard, what effect does it have that he was not enrolled all three quarters?

Given that he had some academic difficulties previously, that he got further behind as result of the unfortunate indiscretion, and that he is so far from home; if he has or is making enough progress that Tressel would consider allowing him to practice this spring, that is a very good sign that a young kid has learned from his mistakes and is maturing into a young man.

I hope that's what is happening. If he can make it back, it could develop into a helluva feel good story.

I don't think that is an issue provided he is progressing on some sort of loosely defined schedule. The basic idea is that you get five years to play four. However, if you are on an official NCAA suspension - ala MC - games missed while on suspension count as games played.

Not sure how it fits in this particluar case, since he was dismissed from the team. I'm not really sure that qualifies as a "suspension". Anyway, IMO, a suspension, regardless of whether it is team imposed, or NCAA imposed, costs you the eligibility.

Of course, OK just re-instated their resident ex-con Dvoracek after being suspended. Did missing last season cost him a year of eligibility?
