Eddie George's Wife Vies For $1 Million On Survivor
Thursday, February 12, 2009 5:10 PM
NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? A contestant on the latest installment of Survivor will likely have a strong following in central Ohio. Taj Johnson-George is one of 16 contestants vying to win $1 million in the show's 16th season that was scheduled to premiere on Thursday night.
Johnson-George has been in the spotlight before as part of the Grammy-nominated R&B group, SWV. Now she is taking center stage in Survivor: Tocantins - The Brazilian Highlands, 10TV's Andrea Cambern reported.
"I wasn't going to be eating any bugs," Johnson-George said. "I'm not eating any baby embryos. I'm just not doing that!"
In addition to the legions of music fans she has across the U.S., Johnson-George, 37, is the spouse of a favorite son, former Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George.
The show's producers went looking for a current or former NFL player's wife to try to outwit, outplay and outlast all the others and Johnson-George said she was game, Cambern reported.
"I think they were looking for someone posh, prissy, (and) comfortable in her posh setting - not being comfortable being out in the woods - they got me, the tomboy from Brooklyn," Johnson-George said.
She said that she had never seen a single episode of the original reality show.
"I had to watch them back-to-back-to-back and I thought, 'What am I getting myself into?'" Johnson-George said.
Eddie George said that he never had any doubt that his wife had what it takes to compete.
"That's what I love about her," George said. "She's so independent. She has dreams, goals that she wants to fulfill."
Learning to swim was at the top of Johnson-George's to-do list.

Dan McGrath commentary: Eddie George moving nicely into Big Ten Network gig
'95 Heisman winner a good fit as host on Big Ten Network
Dan McGrath Commentary
March 1, 2009
Eddie George was known as a sharp individual during his playing days, thoughtful and self-aware, so a postcareer transition to broadcasting seemed sensible and inevitable.
Sure enough, he signed on as a football analyst with Fox SportsNet after retiring from the NFL in 2004 and endured a semiregular gig on the network's "Best Damn Sports Show, Period." But weekly dissections of point spreads and playing-field esoterica were less stimulating after so many repetitions, and the frat-boy babble of "Best Damn" often was downright silly.
George was seeking something more substantive and was intrigued when the Big Ten Network approached him about being host for "The Big Ten Quad," a talk show designed to go unconventionally deep with past, present and future conference newsmakers. The first edition is scheduled to air March 13 during the Big Ten tournament.
Mike Feller, BTN's vice president for programming, has high hopes for the show, envisioning it as a window revealing the real people behind Big Ten sports figures.
He has equally high hopes for the host.; George might lack the interviewing chops of, say, Bob Costas, but he has stature and name recognition as a 1995 Heisman Trophy winner and an inquisitive, engaging manner that had panelists Gene Keady, Pat Fitzgerald and Ron Dayne at ease and talking candidly during a recent taping of the debut show before a live audience at Northwestern.
