RB Dallan Hayden (transfer to Colorado)

5 players had 20 or more carries last year. We're going to need at least 4 healthy RBs to get through the season with all the knicks guys take throughout the season
3 of them had meaningful carries.

Crowley had 20 touches in 3 games. All of them were in garbage time. Two in 39/49 pt blowouts, and the other 6 were on final drive vs Minny.
Pryor had 21 touches in 4 games. All of them were 39 pt blowouts or more.

Now those were crucial carries for their development personally, and 3 bodies is frightening, but they absolutely did not lean on more than 3 RBs last year.

My point is, even they were ONLY 20 touches, that's 20 less touches that Henderson has in blow out games, and not risking injury. That's still meaningful. There are countless stories of star players getting injured in garbage time. Much rather have a backup getting those touches. If these guys got 5car in blowouts, that helps Henderson and Williams stay fresh for the next week.
Henderson
Williams
Hayden
1-2 up in the air, but still needed.

If Treveyon gets dinged while Miyan is banged up, then they have a real problem on their hands. That's an actual problem. Then you have to think about stunting Chip's ascent as a LB.

Losing efficiency for the garbage time carries where they aren't trying to get first downs is not a meaningful loss.

100% of the carries by RB4 + RB5 in 2021 were when the back of the bench was cleared.

The massive loss is Pryor not getting 50-70 touches as the RB3, and sprinkling 30 of those into real games. It's a huge loss for Pryor and the future development after Miyan goes pro.

As for replacing the carries when they aren't trying to score (and these aren't insults to these guys, merely speaking to who they can use)

They could get it to Cayden Saunders, or one of the frosh walkons.
They could give it to Mitch Rossi, or the next Mitch.

They could get Kaleb Brown involved in creative ways to get him interesting.

And I think garbage time carries are still meaningful, because those are hits not getting tacked on Henderson and/or Williams.
Agree on the massive loss of Pryor and his development. Only hope is that he gets better in the mental aspect of the offense.
Hayden can run out games in blowouts, and any carry for him will be solid reps.

Cayden Saunders is an option. As is Xavier Johnson who was a RB in HS. Trayanum can be used and won't affect LB depth, as it seems like we have 50 LBs for only 2spots.

DALLAN’S DEBUT
Dallan Hayden stepped onto the turf in Ohio Stadium for his first snap as a Buckeye at the 8:24 mark of the fourth quarter, As Kyle McCord took the snap, Hayden slid to the left and took the handoff. The running back from Memphis slashed diagonally through the middle of the line and raced to the Arkansas State sideline for a nine-yard gain.

Thought Dallan looked pretty darn good in his debut, future is bright for him here. I don't know why but he gives me JK Dobbins vibes with the way he runs and catches the ball, is that just me?

Was surprised there wasn't more chatter about him. Not sure I get JK vibes, but he's quick and decisive with his cuts, which will be great to see if he's the #2 back next year. Just need a bit more weight and I think he'll be a good one.

I was thinking JK with the slashing and decisive style of runs, which is what I recall of JK. I definitely remember JK needing a year or so in the weight room to start breaking tackles, with a reputation somewhat of being a scatback of sorts at first, but maybe I am just thinking of a more recent and yet not so similar player. Either way, I think Dallan is going to be very good here and was encouraged with his play on Saturday.

I was impressed with him. He seemed more comfortable and, frankly, better than I would've expected. Hell yeah, that's get him as many touches as we can early in the season. That's not taking anything away from the other two and will pay off later. If he has to play against michigan Lite, for instance, we want him as confident as can be. That only comes with reps.

He's the 3rd back and a freshman not named Mo C so bringing him up slowly is perfectly fine by me especially when the first two are ripping at about a 100 clip each the first two games. Let him get his garbage time yardage and eat because if something were to happen to him getting reps, then our Offensive sphincter puckers like a mf and we do not want Ryan Day doing that.
