RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

I've seen him play, but it's very difficult (for me anyway) to try and translate that over to how he will do against top flight competition in the Big 10.

Running back is said to be the easiest transisition from high school to college as far as actually running the ball, but where most backs struggle is with the protection calls. Can he pass block? Can he make the necessary reads? To a back of his caliber running the ball will be no problem, it's the mental part that most struggle with.

That said, I would highly doubt that Wells beats out Pittman for the starting job unless he comes in and runs like Herschel Walker, and even then he has Coach Tressel's loyalty to contend with. He'll definitely get some playing time next year, but I don't know that we see him start as the featured back until (possibly) his junior year.

I hope Tressell doesn't just give Pittman the starting spot. I would like to see both the running backs work for that position. The good thing about having two great running backs is that they will constantly be competing against each other which will make them play better against opponents.

Like Haw competing? :pimp: (best weed smoking smiley) JT wont give the job away to either one of them. The question was aimed more is Wells going to be able to walk on to campus and take the job of a 1000 yd rusher who played in one the toughest schedules? Sorry for not phrasing it that way the first time. I know Wells is running all over other highschoolers, but is he going to be an impact player as a true freshman?

Tressel plays the upper classmen first when next year it hould be the true freshman

but, wells is better then pittman right now

Pittmans old coach told me that when i was busting his balls about not being able to recruit wells to go to buchtel like it is a well know thing around akron

The clarett/ross thing was going to be tough for ross to lose it because, his best football was as a freshman

Wells healthy will bring dreams back to OSU.

I still can't get over his last game that I saw, it was like he was a pro player playing in high school against a good buchtel team.

you proved your own point wrong by mentioning Clarett. Tressel will play the best RB. That includes picking up blitzes, learning the playbook and everything else in addition to running the ball. If Wells is the best overall, he will start. If not, Pittman will retain the starting spot.

Question: Will Chris Wells be greater than/equal to/ or less than Adrian Peterson? (In terms of collegiate career).

I don't think Wells will make as big of an immediate impact in the NCAA like Peterson did. But in time I think he will improve to be the better player of the two.

I'd liken him moreso to Ronnie Brown. Either way, the answer is yes. Obviously anything can happen since recruiting is such a crapshoot. But I would put my money on him being the next great osu runningback.

I doubt he'll have a Peterson like impact however since he'll be playing behind Pittman to start off. Peterson came in behind two runningbacks who were pretty much Oklahoma's edition of Lydell ross and Mo Hall.

Stubborn. Strong-willed. Headstrong. In this case, a runner who refuses to be beaten, who will NOT be brought down on first contact. In other words... just what we're looking for :):):)
