RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (All B1G, All-American)

An upright-style will work great......in high school. But, with the monsters we'll put in front of him it may not matter! It just means he'll take more punishment.

yea our offensive line will be dominant here in the future. it doesnt seem like he is an upright runner but when you pay attention to him he is. he somehow has the speed, cutting ability, and shear power to blow over people regardless if he is upright or not and he has a nasty stiff arm. the kid is so much of a strong beast i dont know if even a college player will be able to get him. sure they may go for his legs but unless they get a squared up hit on him i dont see it. the kid is too big and strong to just hit and not wrap his legs. if you dive for his legs he will just use his quickness to dodge you or stiff arm you into the ground in mid air. i must say i still am unsure of how he will look at ohio state. i guess im anxious to see.:oh: :io:

6'2" 240-245 sound like way too big. Plus you don't gain speed when you add weight to that frame. Guys what's wrong with that 230 pds that's bigger than 95% of the RBs in the rest of the nation. The size is already there why flirt with the possibilities of him losing speed.

Yeah, you're right. Hawk and Carpenter both lost speed when they gained 15-20 pounds...oh wait, they got faster. :roll1:

If you've seen his frame, he can easily gain 10-15 pounds of muscle without losing any speed whatsoever. Look at Pittman, who gained 15 pounds between 2004 and 2005 and didn't lose any speed, and in fact gained quickness...and Pittman has a much smaller frame than CWells.

taosman- I agree with you on that BYARS comparison but, WELLS is faster also, has the movement and chance of direction running ability that robert smith showed

Ive seen him play alot and he kept showing something new . i cant wait to see him as a BUCKEYE. He just needs better endurance to go with everything else he has already to be a great rb

When i met him we were both about the same size. I'M considered by others to be in great shape for a 35 year old with my dieting and exercises all the time but, if he is over 5% fat then I'm at 30% fat I think MILILANI is the only other one to bring that up about him. pictures say alot but, in person does it all

Wells could be on those fitness magazines and hes not even training at OSU yet:)

Running back leads Buckeyes' recruiting class

Pair of talented LBs staying home to play at Ohio State

By Doug Harris
Dayton Daily News
COLUMBUS | Ohio State's search for a backup running back to spell Antonio Pittman wasn't successful this season, but coach Jim Tressel should have no problem giving his starter all the rest he needs next year.
<!--endtext--><!-- inset --> <!--begintext--> Chris Wells, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound senior from Akron Garfield High School, has the size to run over defenders and the moves to make them miss, according to recruiting gurus, who liken him to former Buckeye one-year wonder Maurice Clarett (without the attitude).
Most scouting services rate Wells as the nation's No. 1 running back. And he's considered the top overall prospect by Scout.com and the sixth-best by Rivals.com.
He has made an oral commitment to the Buckeyes — players can't sign binding letters-of-intent until Feb. 1 — and reportedly plans to graduate early and enroll at OSU in time for spring practice.
"Chris Wells is the best running back I've seen in Ohio since Maurice Clarett, and maybe the best since Robert Smith (in 1989)," said Scout.com's Duane Long, who publishes Ohio High Magazine.
"He's got power ... but he's a guy who's going to be shaking people out of their socks."
Recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic, who publishes Midwest Football Recruiting News, also believes Wells will be tough to corral because of his 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash.
He tallied 2,134 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2005 while averaging 9.6 yards per carry.
"He's an impact kid," Kurelic said. "I would certainly expect him to see the field next year, though not necessarily as a starter because Tony Pittman is pretty good."
The Buckeyes have gotten nine verbal commitments in a class that is expected to reach about 20, including nods from two other top-100 players nationally in Coldwater linebacker Ross Homan and Colerain offensive lineman Connor Smith.
"It will be somewhere in the top 20," Kurelic said of OSU's 2006 class. "If they get the right kids, it will be in the top 10, definitely."

Cleveland Glenville High School supplied the Buckeyes with current stars Troy Smith, Ted Ginn Jr. and Donte Whitner, and Tressel is trying to keep the pipeline flowing. Glenville receiver Ray Small and defensive end Robert Rose are being wooed by virtually every major power and are said to be teetering between OSU and Southern Cal.
Michigan has a gotten commitments from two Ohioans — Pickerington offensive lineman Justin Boren and Colerain linebacker Cobrani Mixon — both of whom were offered scholarships by the Buckeyes.
Aaron Brown, an offensive lineman from Princeton, also drew interest from OSU before choosing Virginia Tech.
But the decisions of Homan and Colerain linebacker Tyler Moeller left programs around the nation grieving, too.
"Ross Homan is a clone of A.J. Hawk," Long said. "He's that good."
Cincinnati Elder coach Steve Specht, whose team beat Colerain twice on the way to the Division I state title, believes the Buckeyes landed a future star in Moeller, too.
"I thought he was the best defensive player in the state of Ohio," Specht said. "He's as good as I've seen."

Preview of the East running backs for the Army AA game....

It is easy to see why Chris Wells is considered as the nation's top player by Scout.com. He has everything size, speed, vision, agility and the work ethic to make it all the way to the NFL. Some try to compare him to former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett. However Wells is bigger, faster and stronger than Clarett and when it comes to attitude and work ethic there are no similarities between the two. Wells is the kind of player that leads his team in voluntary summer workouts, he keeps his grades up and stays out of trouble. On the field Wells is dynamite. He is a very rare back in the sense that he doesn't really have a "style" of game. He can run around, past you or through you, he's got all of the tools to make an instant impact for the Buckeyes. Wells has the body type to carry the load. Wells is one of those rare guys that when he gets on carries 20 and 25 he seems to get stronger. Look for Wells to put on a show in practice and at the game.

Imagine

Can you imagine our offense in 2007? Now I know we're 2 years away from this but I can't help but pose this question because that year we'll be breaking in a new QB. Check out what I think

Our offensive line will be huge.. heres how it'll prolly work out

Boone Lt, Barton Lg, Cordle C, Smith Rg, Rehring Rt

Now on to our backfield which is where I get excited

We'll have Tony Pittman as a Senior that year, to go along with a Junior in Maurice Wells. Not to mention Chris Wells as a sophomore. To go along with Dionte Johnson at fullback.

Receivers-Ted Ginn, Gonzo, Dukes, others... We're going to have extream speed at the reciever position.

at QB this is a reach but I FULLY expect to see either RS or Henton.. My money is on Henton right now, but we'll have to see

My final thoughts is this we're going to have a truely PUNISHING running game. With Pittman/Wells/Wells I don't think their's going to be a better trio and maybe not a better individual running back (pittman) in the NCAA. Talk about helping out a first year starter at QB, having that running game will be huge in setting up play action to our speed to the outside. In my opinion the 06' offense will be better overall than 07', but as far as a straight up running game goes 07' will be far a better running team than 06'.

I don't think it'd be a reach at all to say the numbers fall like this 1,200 for Pittman, 1,000 for CW, and around 600 for MoW. I know those are crazy numbers but the talent on the line, and definatly the talent in the backfield is going to be crazy good that year.

I'm more overall excited for 06' because I still believe our defense can be dominant, but I can't help myself of thinking of that running game in 07'. Because if we can run the ball and stop the run those are two things that usually happen if you wanna win championships. Plus I know that our defense will always be able to stop the run. Its just something we always make a priority.
