Beanie Wells hates the 49ers, talks goals
by Tyler Bassett (August 20th, 2010)
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - There have been more than a few Arizona Cardinals to share their feelings on the San Francisco 49ers and Beanie Wells is no different.
"To be quite honest, I hate the 49ers," Wells told Sports 620 KTAR's Doug & Wolf when talking about their NFC West division rival.
The running back has no specific reasoning for his hatred and never had anything against them before he was drafted by the Cardinals.
"I have no clue, once I got here and put on this Cardinal uniform it was like instant hate for the 49ers," he said. "I'm looking forward to playing them this year and getting after it."
In Wells' rookie year the Cardinals lost to the 49ers in both meetings despite winning the NFC West.
Wells led the Cardinals in rushing during that rookie season but is expecting an increase in production this season.
"Mainly my goal is to come in and be a lot more productive than I was last year," Wells said.
Arizona Cardinals' Beanie Wells wants the ball - a lot

FLAGSTAFF - Beanie Wells has a consistent message he's been delivering to head coach Ken Whisenhunt. He wants the dang ball.
Wells, last year's first-round pick from Ohio State, said he wants to leave his mark in the NFL, but to do that before the typical NFL running back's expiration date - on or before the ripe old age of 30 - he needs as many carries as he can get.
"My goal has always been to be the best running back to ever play the game and that's still my goal," said Wells, 22. "I know it's going to take some time, but I've got time. ... I just need to get the carries."
He rushed for 793 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie and said he hopes to double those figures in 2010. His workload increased in the second half of last season, but to make sure that trend continues, Wells said he's planting seeds with Whisenhunt about getting more playing time.
Whisenhunt acknowledged he's spoken with Wells, the No. 2 running back on the depth chart behind Tim Hightower, several times on the subject and is encouraged by Wells' hunger for carries.
"We have talked about it and I'm sure we'll talk about it more," Whisenhunt said. "... He just has to remember that there are other areas to his game that he needs to get better with."
Wells wouldn't put a number on how many carries per game would make him happy, adding: "As long as I get most of them" it doesn't matter.
"If I have to belly-ache, I'll belly-ache," Wells said. "I'm just going to tell him I want the ball. And I'll prove I deserve the ball by going out there and running hard and being successful when I get the chance to get it."

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Beanie Wells is certain he has a bright future -- on Dancing with the Stars.
"I could give them a quick 1-2 step -- dazzle the judges," said the Cardinals' second-year running back while clowning for reporters after a recent training camp practice.
With that, he broke into a dance -- an imaginary partner in lockstep.

Wells had better get used to that image. Although the Cardinals are expecting bigger and better things from their emerging star, backfield mate Tim Hightower plans to share the stage, with the coaching staff's blessing.
"I believe in the two-back approach," Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "Aside from the fact that we have two very talented guys back there, it allows you to do different things -- to show different things to defenses."
Last season, that approach made sense. While Wells led the club in rushing with 793 yards, Hightower's superior receiving and pass-protection skills afforded him more offensive touches (206 to 188).
With a year of tutelage, Wells no longer accepts the notion that he's deficient in those areas.
"I know what I'm doing," he said. "I know my plays, my assignments. I'm getting a lot of reps and I think I'm doing a lot better job.
"I think the coaches would agree with that."
you're talking about a team who, on 3rd and 1, threw the ball 30 yards down field. So far two drives for the cardinals and no beanie... That's horse shit. He's leaps and bounds a better back then Hightower. Hightower should be the back on 3rd down and that's IT. Unbelievable how stubborn they're being with not having Beanie the lead back.

if only they had a big bruising back that could gain a yard or two just on pure strength.
