Chris "Beanie" Wells is looking forward to playing under the bright lights Saturday night.

Chris "Beanie" Wells has never played a home night game at Ohio Stadium, but Buckeyes fans shouldn't worry about how he'll react.
When the lights are brightest, so is Wells.
The Buckeyes junior running back usually is at his best in big games, and Saturday night's clash against No. 3 Penn State (ABC, 8 p.m. ET) certainly qualifies.
"I just love playing in big games, honestly," Wells said this week. "All my life, I love big games and it's something, I guess you could say I'm made for.
"I think I'm made to play on the big stage."

He has the evidence to back it up.
  • Last year, he rushed for three second-half touchdowns as Ohio State rallied past No. 19 Wisconsin. Wells finished with 169 rushing yards on 21 carries.
  • Two weeks later, Wells racked up a career-high 222 rushing yards and two touchdowns as Ohio State beat archrival Michigan, 14-3, in Ann Arbor.

OSU?s big back a perfect match for the big game

COLUMBUS - Ohio State tailback Chris Wells doesn't get lost in the crowd. It takes more than one person to stop him. And the more competition there is, the better he plays.
Those traits he displays on the football field could have been learned at home.
When you grow up in the middle of 11 children, you learn to tune out the crowd, make the most of your chances and battle for every yard or chocolate chip cookie.
Ohio State's junior tailback is one of six boys and five girls who grew up in a crowded house on Akron's south side.
He has delivered some of his best work in front of the biggest crowds at big games the last two seasons, most notably gaining 222 yards on 39 carries in a 14-3 win over Michigan last season.

Ohio State's Wells shows up in big games

By Josh Langenbacher

Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells can't explain it.
He just knows his results in big games.
"I love playing the big games," Wells said. "Honestly, talking with one of the guys earlier, I told him I love the big games. I guess you could say I'm made for them. I love to think I'm made for the big stage."
Wells has good reason to believe so.
His stat lines in Ohio State's biggest games speak to Wells' reputation as a player who steps up when needed the most.
His introduction to the country came when he broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown in the No. 1 vs. No. 2 clash between Ohio State and Michigan, when he spun away from a tackler in the backfield.
During a three-game stretch last season against Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin, Wells ran for 523 yards on 79 carries and scored four touchdowns.
Then, when Ohio State needed to beat Michigan to play for the national championship, Wells ran for 222 yards on 39 carries and scored both of the Buckeyes' touchdowns in a 14-3 win.
