RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

The backfield for this year looks like a pretty good one with Hyde, Smith and Hall rotating once in awhile. Hyde is getting stronger and stronger and Smith
is still in the learning period and he reminds me alot of Eddie George in a way

It would be nice in a way if Tom Herman could draw up some nice runs in the future for these horses.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? This sure wasn't the offense a lot of people expected out of Ohio State.

A lot of fans might have hoped the Buckeyes would average 40 points a game, which they are. But almost no one envisioned Urban Meyer's spread offense would end up working so seamlessly alongside Woody Hayes' tenets ? a big back, a big line and enforcing your will on the opponent.

Despite ironing out the kinks in a new system, NCAA probation and a bowl ban, the seventh-ranked Buckeyes (7-0, 3-0 Big Ten) in many ways look a lot like Hayes' Buckeyes teams from the 1970s that used to live off pushing people around.

"This is something that's new for Urban because we never had that type of physicality," said Stan Drayton, an assistant to Meyer at Florida and also his running backs coach at Ohio State. "Now that we have it with these guys here, man, it's really fun to watch the offense develop."

It appears that PSU was intent on stopping Hyde vs Miller. Hyde got us the tough yards though and helped move the chains. Smith was a nice complement and it seemed like when he was in they focused more on Miller thus his 12 yd per run average.

I honestly feel that Hyde's improvement is going to be the main catalyst for Braxton chasing a Heisman. IF he's not able to batter defenses and put serious pressure on the defense, they'll be able to spy Braxton more and keep his numbers down further. With Hyde in beast mode, the sky is the limit for the Buckeyes.

I really hope he can get another 250 yards and go over 1000 and give us 2 thousand yard rushers for the year. If he didnt miss two games, he'd already have it.

Love this kid.

I'm not sure I've seen a better running back near the goal line than Carlos. Doesn't matter if he has to go around or through defenders he'll find a way to punch the ball across.

Whats strange is he'll usually take the ball 5-6 yards down to the 1 yard line then on the next carry gets the TD. This has happened a lot.

He's now starting to run this determined in the open field as well now and I just can't believe we have him plus #5 back next year.

You gotta wonder if Carlos might be thinking about the NFL after this season. He's having a very good statistical season, and he might have more guys cut into his carries next year with guys developing and the passing game advancing. Just a thought.

As nice of a year and as big as he is, can't see this happening. At this point he'd be an undrafted free agent, even with a not so great crop of running backs out there this year.

I'm sure he is thinking about it but I doubt he gets a strong grade from the NFL.

As for youngsters taking carries, perhaps the scat backs and slots (once Meyer truly has some to fit his scheme), but I think Hyde will maintain most of his RB duties due to his strong blocking. He is such an asset to switch from a bruising runner to a lead blocker without changing personnel.
