RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

Seems like the Buckeyes always have someone rush for over 100 yards against Indiana.

Decided to check and, yes, 8 out of the last 9 matches (dating back to 2001) have seen a Buckeye player rush for over 100 yards (even Lydell Ross had his way with the Hoosiers). 2010 being the only year without a Buckeye eclipsing 100 yards rushing (Herron, 68 yards).

Last year saw 3 (!!!) Buckeyes go over 100 yards- Herron 141, Hyde 105, and Miller 105 yards.

I definitely expect to see Hyde continue this trend and I'd venture his total gets closer to 150 this time.

I wouldn't be shocked to see 3 100+ yard rushers again this year. If they could play well enough they could even try to get Kenny into the club in the second half.

Hyde suits are offensive identity better than Hall right now.(down hill, power) And I'm having doubts Hall gets backs to 100% before the season end.
We need Hyde to be the man at running back. He can be.
And Smith will help too!
:oh:

I like the power back's lining up at RB. When Hall gets better maybe they can use him more in the slot or the outside guy on the option.

I would say he's not getting enough recognition from his own fans. Dude was player of the game last night and has had 3 posts in the last 24 hours about him.

Carlos has turned into the guy I think a lot of us thought he would when he was recruited out of Naples. Playing big time college football for us right now and looking like a prototypical Ohio State RB while doing it. I think Carlos is going to do big things for us next year. Excited about the future at RB.

In all fairness, all the attention that the defense gives to Braxton probably helps out Hyde. But he has been playing exceptionally well.

Trucking defenders means they're not just paying attention to Miller. He's hitting them and laughing as he scores a TD

Not only that, Carlos has shown incredible elusiveness. I mean, one minute he's blowing guys up, the next he's juking them out of the play.

He is really, really blossoming into a dominant back.

Looking at the schedule, there's no reason he shouldn't finish with nearly 1k yards and 10+ scores on a season in which he missed several games, and has had 2/3 as many carries as his QB.

2 1k rushers isn't a bad deal at all.

Big back Hyde spreads wings for Buckeyes
October, 15, 2012
By Adam Rittenberg | ESPN.com

Growing up in Naples, Fla., Carlos Hyde didn't need a tutorial on Urban Meyer's offense.

He knew plenty about Meyer and the spread from Meyer's time as Florida's coach. Hyde also knew he wanted no part of it, even though he said Florida offered him a scholarship to play in Gainesville.

"When I saw this offense, it was little running backs," Hyde told ESPN.com. "Little scat backs running around, Percy Harvin-type dudes, Jeff Demps-type people. I wasn't sure I'd be able to fit in."

Carlos Hyde has made the most of his opportunities this season.

At 6-foot and 232 pounds, Hyde can be described as a lot of things. Little isn't one of them. He's a power back in the truest sense, so he chose to go where power backs go: Ohio State.

There was only one problem: Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel, who had featured power backs like Chris Wells and Maurice Clarett in his offense, resigned in the spring after Hyde's freshman season. Although Ohio State kept a similar offense in 2011, the school changed coaches and brought in Meyer.

"I was excited," Hyde said. "I knew Coach Meyer, his track record. He's won big games. He's won some national championships. I knew when he was coming here, I was like, 'I'm going to have a huge chance to get to play in the national championship before I leave college.'"

I think with Hyde, Smith and Ball that this will inspire Urban to keep a "power" mindset that we are seeing right now. There is something about being able to give a guy the ball and know that he can run out the clock and move the chains when needed. I actually think that Urban likes this new dimension in his Offense.
