RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

Woah didnt realize that he was doing THAT well though, and i'm surprised to hear how they mention he's a decently shifty back for his size. I would've thought the opposite for being near 240 pounds! I say try and redshirt Smith if Hyde is doing THIS well.

I hope he does great in his OSU career but I just don't see him beating out Saine or Herron. I could see him taking a lot of the carries for the #3 back (Hall and Berry). Maybe by the end of the season he becomes a bigger part of the offense but Tressel also places a lot of value on being able to block and that sometimes is not easy to pickup for the young guys in the backfield.

I'm sorry, but anyone that says he has a "size/speed combo similar to Saine" is crazy IMHO. Saine is waaaaaay faster than Carlos Hyde. No knock on Carlos whatsoever. Brandon is a fast guy.
And I hate when people say Brandon doesn't have the ability to make people miss. Although that's not his best attribute, he's hardly Jerome Bettis out there. He shook Storm Klein in the spring game this year, as well as Torrence. He shook a dude head on in the hole vs. Oregon and had another vs Iowa that stood out to me. People that say he doesn't have moves don't watch closely I guess.

Agreed, SoCa, Saine doesn't juke defenders, but he has some moves. He reminds me most of Eric Dickerson. Runs upright and fast. If you're moving fast enough and pick the right lines, you don't have to be shifty.

All that said, I'm excited to see what Mr. Hyde brings to the field.

I'm sorry but why would he be taking away carries from Saine? IMO Saine outperformed Herron by a good bit last year. I also thought Saine had more "boom" than boom. This isn't a knock on Herron, but my opinion that Saine played very well last year since healthy. Am I alone on this?

Gotta love the speculation that Jamal Berry will transfer. I haven't heard even a whisper of that yet Scout feels the need to bring it up.

There were some rumors about this in the mill a few months back if I remember correctly. Not sure if I should say anything else on the main boards though because I never did see it confirmed/refuted.

Obviously a crowded backfield will inevitably create "rumors". It just seems that Berry is in a good situation. His injury allowed him to redshirt which gave him another year to bulk up. Saine is gone after this year. As much as I love Herron, I just don't see him being a 20+ carry guy after Saine leaves. The RB spot will be wide open for competition in Berry's redshirt sophmore season. He will have to beat out some talented backs, but you are going to have to do that at any major program. It's not like he is currenlty behind Beanie Wells and Antonio Pittman for the next 3 years.

I agree that Berry is in a good situation. And I don't think Herron will necessarily start next year because he's a senior. Matter of fact I see Hyde, Berry, Hall and Smith battling it out to be the starter while the others continue to fight for carries. IMO, I don't think Herron has the talent that the other 4 RBs possess. He's a decent RB, but the other 4 bring different aspects to the game, whether breakaway speed, power, or shiftiness. Herron will be solid backup when called on though. I think Hyde could possibly win out and share carries with Berry or Hall.
