RB Carlos "El Guapo" Hyde (Official Thread)

I was so impressed with the hurdle effort at real speed I'd never bothered to notice it got him four more yards and the first down.

Hyde currently has 701 yards rushing for the year. That's 116.8 per game if you count his season as only being 6 games, so far (as we should).

To get to 1000 yards for the 12-game regular season, he needs 99.7 yards per game for the remaining games.
To get to 1000 yards for the 13-game season (bowl game or conference championship), he needs 74.8 yards per game.
To get to 1000 yards for the 14-game season (bowl game and conference championship), he needs 59.8 yards per game.

He's averaging 7.3 yards per carry and 16.0 carries per game (for his 6 games this season).

If he keeps up the 7.3 yards per carry, he needs 13.6 carries per game to get to 1000 at the end of 12 games, 10.2 carries per game to get to 1000 at the end of 13 games, or 8.2 carries per game to get to 1000 at the end of 14 games.

If he keeps up the 16.0 carries per game, he needs to average 6.2 yards per carry for 12 games, 4.7 yards per carry for 13 games, or 3.7 yards per carry for 14 games.

Who’s hot?
Carlos Hyde, who kept rolling behind the veteran offensive line, and making his own way when there was a leak. He had 111 yards at Purdue on just eight carries, taking a seat after his first run in the second half put him over 100. He’s at 701 yards for the season, well within reaching 1,000 for the season. He’s averaging 116.8, but NCAA rules dictate that you have to play in 75 percent of the games to be included in national rankings. Hyde was suspended the first three games, which means his first appearance could be after the Michigan game. Unofficially, his average is 11th best. Meanwhile, OSU is No. 5 nationally in scoring (48.2) and No. 8 in rushing (301.1) and total offense (530.9).

I remember back in the 2011 season when Carlos was splitting time with (i think)Rod while Herron was serving his 5 games. There wasnt much of a difference between rod and carlos in the eye test. I was sitting in a bar in Gainesville watching a game talking to the stranger next to me. She said she knew carlos from school and that he is a great guy and would be our next star. Look at him now.

I don't think that draft position speaks negatively about Carlos as much as it does to NFL teams not wanting to spend 1st round picks on running backs anymore.

Exactly. I think Carlos can be a dominant RB at the next level. Vision, instincts, and the ability to break tackles combined with the ability to pass block and catch the ball out of the backfield make a great NFL RB. Carlos has all the above and what is particularly interesting is that I don't think he has been held out with an injury so far in his career? Either way, his health is a big plus. I would LOVE to see Carlos on my NFL team.

Kiper and others of his ilk view Hyde's success as a product of the quality of the offensive line in front of him. Perhaps there is some merit to that point of view, but when you see him in the open field, those doubts should be erased. Carlos is an elite player at his position.

I think he could go higher because, at least the last time I checked, he's the only highly rated big power back in this draft. While it's true that few teams look for that anymore, a few do. I'd love to seem him land someplace like Pittsburgh or San Francisco or even here in Denver where picking up 3d and short and keeping blitzers off of Manning are big priorities.

Prior to getting pulled after the first play of the second half at Purdue (a play where he rushed for 20 yards), he had 111 yards in only 8 carries...UFM yanked him as soon as he hit 100 yards. The previous three games he rushed for 168, 149, and 147 yards...when he played most of the game. I can see UFM leaving Hyde in against Illinois until he gets his 100+ yards (unless for some cosmic reason, the game is closer than it should be). The same for the Indiana game. If so, Hyde should roll into the Pig House with 900+ yards for the season, and you know he'll be playing the whole game that day. He'll have his 1,000 yards before the conference title game...
