RB Bri'onte Dunn (dismissed from team)

Massillon rallies against GlenOak, avoids 0-2 start | FridayNightOhio.com

Dunn, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound junior, rushed for 320 yards on 39 carries, which included TD runs of 78, 57 and 32 yards. He ran over and by defenders.

"He really grew up tonight," GlenOak head coach Scott Garcia said. "He ran like a man."

Unfortunately for GlenOak (1-1), this game was about the "misses".

His 32-yard touchdown run early in the third looked like lost footage of Jim Brown. But Dunn didn't have a run longer than 7 yards after that.

They had 9 guys in the box the entire naught to stop him. He would get 4 yards here, 6 yards there and then explode for a big gain. They didn't have an answer for him until the 4th quarter. He looked like Eddie George the way he ran with his quick feet and amazing force. He doesn't run straight up either. He has great form.

His vision is something that should be noted as well. Some of his best runs were designed up the gut where there was nothing and he busted it outside. He looked great.

Sunday Special: GlenOak star Dunn gets help from alum Fox

Two days after taking one on the chin against Massillon, Scott Garcia was back watching film and preparing for the next game. But the GlenOak head coach had to be pleased that his program took a step forward before ever playing Massillon.

Part of building a program includes past great players taking an ownership and an interest in what the present team is doing. Consider that a success. Former Golden Eagle and Ohio State star Dustin Fox went to GlenOak?s practice Wednesday and pulled running back Bri?onte Dunn aside.

The two players spoke at length, and it was apparently a relatively one-sided conversation, with Dunn doing most of the listening.

?All my message was ? look, he had a nice game in the first game with almost 200 yards rushing,? Fox said. ?That was great, but it was the way he ran at times. He?s really talented and he makes a lot of plays. But I thought there were times when he ran tentatively. He should never get arm tackled by a 150-pound defensive back. This kid has the potential to be a Big Ten running back.?

Dunn goes about 6-foot-2, 215 pounds. Consider Fox?s message delivered. Despite losing to Massillon, Dunn had an amazing game in which he ran for 320 yards and three touchdowns.

Obviously, Massillon head coach Jason Hall knew Dunn was GlenOak?s primary offensive weapon. But even Hall had his eyes opened.

?He had an unbelievable night,? Hall said. ?He has all the intangibles. He has the size, speed and strength to run through tackles. But the most impressive thing was once he got into the open field, his top-end speed. That was impressive.?

Fox didn?t take credit for Dunn?s performance. Although, there is no doubt what the former player said to the current star had an impact.

?I wasn?t the one out there running,? Fox said.

?Something lit a fire under him,? Garcia said. ?Bri?onte is a kid with a lot of pressure on him with the media attention and scouting services. Sometimes, that?s a tough thing for a young kid to handle. Without question, that was his best game.

?When college coaches come in, they want to see tape of our guys against McKinley and Massillon and the big games. They want to know how players performed in the big games.?

Dunn, just a junior, already had some Division I offers. Ohio State has not offered him yet. The Buckeyes may want to jump on the Dunn bandwagon soon.

?He reminds me a lot of me when I played,? Fox said. ?In the sense that I was very talented, but I lacked confidence. It always took Jack Rose or Mel Tucker when I was at Ohio State to let me know, ?You?re good. You shouldn?t be intimidated by anybody.? To be the best, you?ve got to dominate, and that?s all I did with Bri?onte.?

Fox said he will speak with Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel about Dunn. The Buckeyes, however, are already aware of him.

?One game is not going to get him a scholarship,? Fox said. ?I told Bri?onte what he did was great, but now the challenge is duplicating that and showing consistency. The other thing, it?s great to make the plays on the field, but now you have to make all the right decisions off the field and make personal sacrifices. Those are the guys Ohio State recruits.?
NEXT BEANIE?

Fox understands why many people compare Dunn to former Buckeye running back Beanie Wells ? Fox does as well ? but he cautions fans at the comparisons.

?I tell people this kid could be the next Beanie Wells,? Fox said. ?That?s the best example of running style I can think of. But Beanie Wells was a first-round draft pick. Bri?onte Dunn has a long way to go.?

Rivals $ - Dunn punishes opponents

9/9

By Hare...talks about his personal and team goals for this season...visiting OSU this weekend with his parents and possibly DeShawn Hall.
i think that hall is going to be a player. he has a really big frame and is fast as hell. last year, he was about 6'1", 6'2" and is built pretty well. he is physical and can take a hit. he hasn't been getting a lot of passes this year because of dunn, but when he gets a pass his way, he catches with his hands and not his chest. he is a good kid to boot.
