i just don't think that he is linebacker material. he plays it now, and is hardly visible on defense. i think that his best position will be running back. with a talent like that, it's hard not to want to see him run the ball.

i wonder if this could possibly turn into a possible james wilder situation where some schools are recruiting him for LB and others RB...to me, watching Wilder a few times on TV i think he would be a better LB then a RB at the next level IMO...havent seen Dunn's film at RB so im not even sure if this situation could even come to fruition but i thought it was worth asking

249 yards and 2 TDs tonight in a 28-9 win vs Jackson. I guess that hurts the average. :wink:

He was a load against Jackson, never broke anything longer than ~24 yards, but had many runs in the 12-18 range, just picking up huge chunks carry after carry and punishing defenders on the way. There was one play in the 4th where a Jackson defender brought Brionte down on his own and he got up and celebrated like he had just won the lottery. Quite fun to watch.

There was another play that was a big gainer, but he was at a point where he was even with a few defenders and was unable to outrun them. Still a big gain, but you have to figure elite speed would have had it in the endzone. Beanie had tremendous speed for his size. In this instance, I didn't see that top gear breakaway from Brionte.

PS. Didn't take the field on defense. He returned kickoffs, but no looks at LB

i went to the glennoak jackson game the other night and what bucknut11 said was pretty dead on. the reason why brionte didn't have his best game is because glennoak came out passing the ball in the first half. they need to improve their passing game, and this was the perfect game to do it. jackson is slow and undersized. coach garcia wanted to work on the air game more. when brionte did run the ball though, he looked good. no breakaways, but still good, strong gains.

he didn't even sniff the field on defense which hopefully puts an end to the "move brionte to linebacker debate".

you guys should be happy to hear about this part. when brionte was on the when the d was on the field, dustin fox was talking to him a lot. brionte seemed to be askin him for advice about what to do on the field and how to adjust his game. i've met fox and he is a super nice guy who is humble. he's a class act and i'm sure that having a national championship mentor guiding brionte is a good thing for osu.

as i said before, brionte has a ton of talent and will be great at the next level. if he doesn't go to notre dame, which i don't think he will, i hope he suits up for the scarlet and gray. he will be a force the first time he touches the ball his freshman year.

Sunday Special: Bri'onte Dunn gets 'The Call'

While Bri?onte Dunn hasn?t made an informal college commitment yet, the GlenOak High School running back is a bit giddy at the moment. Dunn, who has 1,088 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns in four games, got the call he had been waiting for all summer.

Jim Tressel called Golden Eagle head coach Scott Garcia on Wednesday to let him know the Ohio State head coach would be offering Dunn a scholarship. Colleges can?t formally offer high school juniors a scholarship until Sept. 1. However, overtures can be made among coaches, such as was done with Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati with Dunn.

But Ohio State is the one Dunn had been waiting on. He might have feared it wouldn?t come. Ohio State currently won?t have more than 15 scholarships for its 2012 recruiting class, and Tressel already has one commitment from a running back. Columbus DeSales? back Warren Ball has committed.

Dunn hasn?t committed, but said he planned to sit down and talk with his family about his options this weekend. A verbal commitment on a player?s end is mostly an insurance policy. While colleges don?t have to honor anything other than a signed Division I letter of intent ? that doesn?t happen until February 2012 for Dunn ? any school would be committing recruiting suicide if it did not fulfill a verbal commitment down the road.

That is one of the reasons why players are committing earlier than ever. For example, a player is protected from injury with a verbal commitment.

Dunn may have tipped his hand a bit. Every time he talked about playing at Ohio State, he smiled wide.

?Wednesday night it was tough to sleep,? Dunn said. ?I just called my family and told them all about it. ... When coach Garcia called and told me who he just got off the phone with and said he had good news, that was real nice.

?This offer means a lot. It?s close to home and my family. I?m happy about it, but we?ve got to talk about it, too.?

Dunn is 6-foot-11⁄2 and about 220 pounds. He ran a 4.5 40-yard that was electronically timed at a Nike Combine event in the spring. Ball is about 6-1, 200 with 4.5 speed.

While Dunn is just a junior and is scheduled to take the ACT test for the first time in the next month, he has a solid 3.0 grade-point average. That?s another reason Ohio State jumped on him so soon.
