RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

I was thrilled with those calls. I think that Tressel was rightly trying to force the O-line to work out their kinks, get low, and learn to work as a team and play well. There were some problems on the line and he wanted them to try to fix them today as much as possible. I thought that that was a good plan. . .

He was essentially daring them, repeatedly, to get it right. He said, "you are bigger, better, and stronger than these guys. If you execute correctly, no matter how they play, this will work. Try again."

ya, your right. I just was really disapointed with the o-line being handled by the YSU players. I bet Tressel was going nuts towards them after the game. Also, the D-line had a few questions that need to be worked out but, at least we won the game against a DIVISION 1AA TEAM.

You should check out the-ozone.net. The d-line scheme was different than the what they had prepared for. Once they figured it out they started to have success. No need to panic just yet.

After today, I'd say that Brandon is indeed the #2 RB. Still, it was premature speculation before today...

I agree. He was one of the highlights of today's game. The kid just won't go down, keeps fighting for yardage, even at the goal line. Really looks like an excellent option. Very impressive.

Pretty much how we've been saying, Brandon is In-Saine! The speed is just a completely different level than everyone else. His little juke at the goal line on the run that got called back was beautiful. I could just tell that Beanie came out slow today. He didnt fire into the hole until late when he had his big run, like he normally does. Brandon was going a mile a minute when he came in and it really shook Ytown. Mo Wells also had some really nice plays using his quickness that I like to see out of him. We're in pretty good hands as long as we can get the Oline to play a little more pissed off in the future.

Brandon's development since his Jr film is amazing and a testament to solid coaching and hard work.

I will gladly eat crow on this one...I never believed he would end up at RB in Columbus.

Brandon will be a great one.

Every time freshman Brandon Saine is mentioned, the eyes of Ohio State running backs coach Dick Tressel light up. It was no exception yesterday after practice.

Is it just me or does Saine seem a bit stiff? I don't exactly know how to explain it but I just haven't noticed the cutting ability or fluidity you see in the top running backs. His straight line speed seems good but I don't know if he just hasn't let loose yet or what but he seems to run a bit stiffly.

I know exactly what you mean...but it is much better than it was when he first hit the recruiting scene.

Its that upright, choppy motion...

I completely agree, but then again he's never really had to use cuts and jukes as much in high school. Most Defensive players in HS run 4.7-5.8 the players in college are much faster. Straight line speed has usually been good enough. His lateral movement will get better. But right now I'll just take what he has knowing there aren't many players out there faster.
