RB Antonio Pittman (Official Thread)

With Bush, Peterson and a few others coming out, I'd stick around another year if I was Pitt...
sorry but no one here can say that. let's remember that there may be more to deciding to leave early than field-related issues. also, pitt is a running back, and their "lives" are often fleeting.

I hope he stays. He's my favorite player. I think one more year would be great for him. He's still taking a little too much time behind the line of scrimmage to find a hole, IMO. He could also stand to pack on a little more muscle.

Pitt claims he runs in the low 4.3's. I bet he runs a 4.40-45 at the NFL Combine.

Not saying that's inaccurate, but never put too much stock into high school players' 40 times. If he truly runs a 4.3, then he'd be as fast if not faster than Ginn...A 4.45 is not bad by any stretch of the imagination for a RB.

If he can be a high second rounder this year, then go. However, that hinges on how well he runs in the 40s. The difference between a 4.45 and a 4.55 could be millions.

No, if your only projected as a second rounder do not go. I have a buddy who does financial planning for several NFL players and the 2nd and 3rd round money is nothing. No guarantee's and very low signing bonuses. By the time the agent and IRS get theirs its the kind of money normal people make over a couple of years. Not the millions everyone thinks he could live the rest of his life on.

The real debate for him is could he ever be a 1st rounder? If so then you hold out for that, if 2nd is as good as your ever going to get, then by all means he should go. I think 1 more year and the star treatment he will get for being our featured back will make him more money.

That was my initial opinion too, but it seems that the overwhelming majority thinks that he and Gonzo should go because this is as high as they can climb on the draft board. With the chance that's going to be afforded to OSU backs following the departure of Smith next season, Pitt's going to have a chance to put himself in a really elite status. But again, Wells could prove that Pitt's the second best back on the team.

The other part of the "as high as I'll ever get" thing is how much value they place on the intangibles of a SR year at a school like OSU. I'f your a 2nd rounder now and will be a 2nd rounder then, you'll find many NFL players that tell you to stay and enjoy it. The injury risk is always present, you can't plan around it imo. A 2nd/3rd rounder who blows a knee in pre season camp is just as fucked as one who does it in college.

BTW I saw a quote from Gonzo that said he's coming back, no doubt about it. Am I missing something or is this just a general "what if" type discussion?

Over on the Gonzo thread, hawaiibuckeye has some reliable sources that indicates Gonzo is seriously pondering about going pro. And posters on this thread are indicating that is a lot of clamor about Pitt going pro. Just rumors at this point, but pretty credible rumors, particularly the ones provided to hawaiibuckeye concerning Gonzo.

THAT IS TRUE!

BUT...I take what I get with a grain of salt. Remember, these guys are young men and their minds are moving a mile a minute when it comes to a HUGE decision like this. They change their minds all the time; back and forth..questioning everyone and themselves.

I thought he'd stay a month ago, but his stock is SKYROCKETING and his TWO concussions over the past two years may play a role in this. I would not be surprised if this is true and he does go. Gozo is a VERY SMART guy (duh!) and IF he wants to pursue an NFL career before making it big in life he might just make the leap after weighing his options.

Personally, like everyone, I hope he stays for selfish reasons. It's his life however and NOBODY should talk bad about any kid who makes THEIR OWN decisions.

So even if he has decided to go in his mind, that can change and I hope he returns. But I will not fault him for leaving. Instead, I will respect his choice and wish him well...and thank him for THE CATCH!

Gonzo's coming back. he said so this week. he said he wanted to be a captain...

i think Ginn will come back as well... Senior wants him to get his degree.

Pitt has said a few times in the papers that he's coming back unless, he's pulling a Tressel move about communications. Like he did when he bombed the scum all game long:biggrin:
