RB Antonio Pittman (Official Thread)

Pittman said multiple times that he wants to come back and bring the 8th Heisman to CBus. Now of course that can flip on a dime, but hopefully he realizes that he can still get bigger and faster. This competition with Beanie (regardless of stats next year) will only make him a better back and scouts can see this with or without big fancy numbers.

Yes next year's RB class could be insane as well, I think maybe he just needs to get evaluated and see how many teams are really in the hunt tp take an RB early in the draft as well. I have been impressed at how some teams have used their rookie backs in the NFL this year. Jax is right about the money thing too. 2nd rounders don't get anything like what you'd think in comparison to the 1st round selections. So I say, if he's projected as a 1, then let him go and we can smile, wave goodbye and thank hum for his time here. If anything lower, I hope he stays.

We don't want the same thing that happened to Youboty to happen to Pitt. He could've moved up significantly if he would have stayed another year...although in AY's defense he was told by some he was a sure 1st round pick. Unfortunately his stock plummeted like crazy before the draft.

The same guy cough *Kiper* cough is telling Gonzo that he's a first rounder as well.

I think that Antonio Pittman would get more than 1000 yards again next year. It would be a pity if he left because it will hurt our chances next year but also because his market value probably would be higher this year. He has been eclipsed this year by Troy Smith and will get a lot more press next year, even if he shared carries with Beanie Wells.

Right now, pro scouts have to be wondering how much of Pittman is Pittman and how much is a defense trying to cope with Smith and his receivers. The second half of the Illinois game didn't exactly cover Pitt in glory.

So, I'm a big fan of his and hope he stays, but if he really is thinking of leaving, I hope someone is discussing some hard realities with him. He needs another year to truly shine and he will financially benefit from it greatly in my opinion.

Whether or not Pittman loses more carries next year to Beanie should not make a difference. If you're good, the NFL will find you.

Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams shared carries their entire careers at Auburn and it obviously didn't hurt them -- they went #2 and #5 in the same 2005 draft.

Honestly, another full year of Pittman & Wells, no longer in the shadows of Smith & Ginn, would generate HUGE pub.

A few reliable sources are saying Pittman is definitely gone and has told coaches as much. Hope someone can lay solid claim to the back-up RB spot. Between Mo Wells, Boom Herron, Brandon Saine, and maybe Clay or Hughes (if we get a 3rd RB in this class) not a lot of experience behind Beanie. On the flip side it will be great to watch Beanie tote the rock 25 times a game.

I really hopy Antonio stays.

However, I can not wait to see how Saine does. To be honest, I know him more as a track runner than a football player (I ran track and CC in high school). He is REALLY fast just in case some of your don't know lol. I'll be interested to see how his track speed translates to football speed.

I too would really like Pitt to stay for another season. But what can you say, he helped Ohio State to one of its best two year stretch and he also played a large in defeating Michigan three years in a row. It's great to have these experiences in college and take the next step. I guess Pittman is just moving on to the next stage in his career. Best of luck to him whatever he chooses to do! :osu:

Let's look at it this way:

If Pitt and Ginn really are set on leaving, then they will pour their souls out into the NC game vs. USC. And with Pitt, Ginn, and Smith playing their last game for The Ohio State University, there's just no way we can lose.

Pittman won't win a Heisman with Beanie back there with him.

The one thing that makes me think he might stay would be a draft day evaluation of 3rd round or lower. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him go in the 1st, but I don't know how realistic that is. Regardless, the ultimate would be having him back next year for experience and leadership purposes and to provide much needed depth at RB. What if Beanie gets hurt and PItt goes pro...then what? I REALLY wish he'd stay.

We are back to no respect. CFN's list of top 25 prospects for the Heisman next year do not include Pitt.
How wrong is that?

I've noticed that outside of our OL and Troy, nobody on our offense is getting any respect. Seems like all these media folks care about is pure stats, and we have far too many weapons for them to hype. I like it though, the lack of respect should keep us focused on the task at hand.
May I also say that it's laughable to find Clausen on that list... last I checked, Sharpley had the inside track for the job in 2007?
Or how about Brennan and Slaton topping the list. I think McFadden and Hart have to be the early favorites.
