Question About Car Maintenance

I own a newly bought 2002 Hyundai Elantra GTS with only 62k miles on it. I recently took it to the service center, and they told me I need to change the timing belt every 48 months. I thought it had to be done after 80k to 100k miles, not 48 months. I suspect they are trying to fleece me for money, but I just want to make sure. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks in advance!

Given that if they assume that 48 months at 12,000 miles a month is nearly 60K...its quite reasonable... if this is a 16 valve (or something more than 2 valves per cylinder) I would extremely recommend erring on the side of caution.

So, Sat AM I took my car into the dealership for annual checkup / bill of health kind of thing... As I was pulling into the lot the Audi Assist (roadside assistance) dude tagged my rear drivers quarter and bumper... among other things... but that was where most of the damage was.

Anyhow, since it's going to be in the body shop I'm thinking of having it cleaned up a bit. Fix a couple of surface scratches and having it re clearcoated.

Anyone have experience with this? Thoughts / warnings / cautions welcome. FWIW, this is the body shop that the dealer takes their Audis to for clean up and whatnot when there's any damage on the lot. They are pretty highly rated, and given that the accident was kinda (ok, 100%) on them, they appear to be pretty motivated to keep me happy.

So? What say you all?

How's your neck and back feeling a couple days after the accident? Any stiffness?

I have an Audi A4 Turbo. Driving back from Athens, OH to Columbus the undercarriage thing came unscrewed. It was 1:00 AM so I just removed the thing with a Leatherman and never replaced. Seems Okay.

And a run in with a parking cement whatever it is called thing, I had no fluid. I couldn't reach the breach so I sprayed a bunch of silicone in there to seal it and let the fluid not leak.

Um. . . I just wanted to say hello Audi guy. I am very, very obviously not qualified for advice.

Oh, and I changed my oil by driving the car onto the curb to give it lift.

I have the most jacked up car. . . my safety valve car is a reliable Honda with no miles. But I adore Audis.

It was even worse. I was on the road in a turn lane to enter their parking lot. I was facing east bound and had to wait for west bound traffic to clear so I could turn north into the lot.

The employee was entering traffic from their lot and intended to go east bound. He clearly just didn't look up and as a result he tagged my drivers rear quarter with his drivers front bumper.

I don't think that either car was moving more than 10 MPH. I saw it coming and when I did I got on the gas to try to get in the lot before he hit me... so I may have been going more than 10... but not much more.

Neck and back fine... LOL.

I know that Audi have some issues here and there. I can only type from my experience, but this is the best car I've ever owned. It's only got 50K on the clock and for an '09 it's obviously low miles. She's a garage queen for the most part since I walk to the train for work... but as far as fun to drive, reliability and overall construction, it's hands down the best car I've ever owned. The 4.2 V8 packed into a tiny area designed for your 2.0 turbo creates all kids of challenges, but thankfully, I've apparently got one that has managed to get past some of those issues (oil burning, timing chain, etc.).

Going to find a piece of wood to knock on right now.

Depends on the scratches. A good clay bar treatment would likely work wonders and won't cost nearly as much. I spent all day and <100 on my new VW and the difference is unreal.
