QB1 Julian Sayin (National Champion)

I think that yesterday was a laboratory for this young man and he got a bit overwhelmed by it in the first half. Ohio also appeared to be doing some things for which he was unprepared or at least didn't expect. He's going to grow from that and I expect to see better from him in Washington.

Who we saw yesterday in very unlikely to be who we see in a national championship run. A bit of a down day may be a great thing to keep his and fans' expectations feet on the ground.

I mean judging by how other QBs have played around the country and the OSU Defense I'd say even a performance like this from him could win a title lolz

Not yet. I would agree with that if he had eaten that sack. He needs to have it pounded into his head that he has the best defense. If you have to take a sack, take a sack. I was fine with him missing a few reads and letting the ball go late a few times, but you can NOT turn the ball over like that.

The only way teams can score, is lucky hailmary type passes, or if the offense turns the ball over. I will be shocked if the OSU offense has to score more than 28 to win a game this year.

Through three games, Sayin has six passes of 40+ yards (five for TDs)....

But inside the 10-yard line, he is just 3 for 7 for 16 yards, a TD, an INT, and a sack.

A lot of QBs have trouble when the field is compressed, but Sayin really needs to be better when the Buckeyes get close to the goal line, especially because they don't have a Quinshon Judkins to hammer it home.

On some of those 3rd down inside the 5 situations, I would have liked to see them try to pound it with the RB rather than trying to be cute with the passes. The one in particular when they were going to go for it on 4th anyway. Passes inside the 5 aren't easy, especially when you are strictly a dropback passer. That might also be a place for the Kienholz package.

I don't see anything that makes me worry. He has missed a few reads, but not lost composure. That's ridiculous for a kid this young. Buying time and throwing that off-platform TD pass to Klare accurately was a thing of beauty. A lot of guys sail that ball under those circumstances. Similarly, although it didn't count, the short red zone toss to CJD (who bitchslapped a couple of those guys to get into the end zone), was not a third game as a starter play. Even not taking the sack, which was, of course, a mistake, was not because he was in oh-shit mode. He was in control of himself and thought he could make that play. The difference, and they'll all get a handle on it, is that this kid can make those types of plays. The issue, then, is showing him when and when not to make them.

Simple answer. Hard counts without snapping the ball until either:
- It's whatever and goal from the 1
- It's whatever and goal from the 40

Agree with entire post, but I’ll add that the necessary fraction-of-a-second adjustment for his go/no-go decisions should come with experience more than instruction.
Agree entirely. Similar to my point in the Arvell thread about the tackling angle he chose to take, the really good ones learn what they can do and what they can do in different circumstances.

Yes. Either use Kienholz like Florida did with Tebow in those goalline situations, or be willing to actually have Sayin run the ball in our offense. It has become apparent that we do not want Sayin to get hit and therefore are unwilling to have him run the ball. We have seen this with Day protecting his starting QBs in the past. But we did not see it last season, and look what happened. It is obvious that we are not afraid to run Kienholz, that Kienholz is a capable runner, and that Keinholz has nice touch on the short yardage passes. I would like to at least see us try it out.
