QB1 Julian Sayin (All B1G, B1G Frosh of Year, All American, National Frosh of Year, National Champion)

Will Howard fighting with Drew Allar for last on the QB depth chart in Pittsburgh while Stroud is Stroud in the NFL tells you all you need to know.

There is no comparison of the two as Quarterbacks.

Day’s strategy is obviously to build out the NFL prep machine that he inherited and he’s done it extremely well.

You can’t keep that going if you use college game manger types at QB. The elite WR’s want to see the elite QB coming to Columbus with them and vice versa. It’s a platform effect of sorts.

Kinda chuckling about Herbie's picture. Believe, either read or heard, that Herbie was the ONLY skill player NOT drafted during Coop's years at tOSU. Am certain someone will check, but hey. Now, he's done very well for himself in life-after-football, and hats off to him. I mean, heck, if a guy can make a TV name for himself as a punter/kicker, there's no limit out there.....

Stanley Jackson, Steve Bellisari and Austin Moherman were never drafted and were recruited by Cooper to be QBs at OSU.

He inherited a couple of guys that did (Tupa and Graham)

Sometimes a QB that has different skill sets is what’s required to win. So for that part of it I’m excited to see how this goes but also more terrified that this is basically the season. We’ve been bitten by injuries to key players for a while now and it’s never really derailed a season. Maybe it’s caused a less successful season but OSU typically finds a way to keep winning regardless to an extent.

There’s no question that right now Julian is the more talented than Luke. Who knows though? Maybe Luke’s willingness to scramble and get big chunk yardage gives this offense an element that’s better?

Just like Howard is not as good as CJ but maybe was what the team needed in that moment. Sometimes what’s needed the starter can’t give.

What I do know is that the Julian Sayin we’ve seen this year wasn’t the answer either. We weren’t winning it all with a QB that can’t hit 50% of his passes in big games and missed wide open after wide open WRs.

Odds aren’t great that the backups are better but at least we are going to find out if Luke is a spark the offenses needed. Because I think he can be provided the plan is developed to his strengths

Just want to say Howard did get the job done, so obviously a legend, but Stroud was 10xs the qb.

I swear Knowles had money on that Georgia game. Remember we were up 2 scores in the 4th and he called a defense that put a safety on their best receiver for a 1 play 70+ yard td drive?

According to Downs, the players had to demand a change after the Michigan game or we don't steam roll through the playoffs. Now maybe some of that was Howard's swag/leadership? Or maybe it was all the veterans on defense sick of Knowles shit...

One thing that championship team had was good veteran leadership. JTT, Sawyer, Ransom, Downs, Howard, Henderson etc etc. Really going to need JJ and others to step up in the locker room.

As he begins to heal, Julian Sayin is currently 3rd in the nation in passing efficiency, despite having had to play road games against solid defenses at Texas, Iowa, and Indiana. I know that’s rather hard to believe.

Having noted that, I have re-watched the Indiana game and like many others am frustrated by his decision making and execution. On two of the sacks, he could have thrown the ball away and avoided the loss of several yards. This included the failed screen, where he was out of the pocket and only needed to throw the ball away past the line of scrimmage, it didn‘t need to be near a receiver since he was out of the pocket.

And on the 2 times where JJ was fairly open on deep middle routes, one was under-thrown by a few yards (but it was a travesty that no DPI was called), and the other was air-mailed over his head and picked off. Those could have been nice chunk plays.

There were 3 nice plays to TEs at the start of both halves that netted 63 yards, and 2 throws to CH Jr that got 51 yards (one while under pressure). I know Indiana’s defense is solid, and our O-Line is dinged up (although that’s to be expected), but it’s difficult to understand why we don’t see more of what works. Of course that’s as much determined by play-calling as by QB performance.

Anyway, heal up Julian, and spend a ton of time in the film room while you’re re-habbing.

Honestly I have him play vr football and be blitzed every damn down.

But probably should have done that over the offseason

Some people can handle it and some never can.

It's just the way people are wired, not really a knock just something you have to self aware of.

Close and late situations/ie "clutch" some people jus relax and everything slows down, some freak the fuck out and their monkey brain takes over.

Not sure if the latter group can ever really manage it well enough while trying to play a sport at it's highest levels.
