QB1 Julian Sayin (All B1G, B1G Frosh of Year, All American, National Frosh of Year, National Champion)

This is going to be a really unpopular opinion but I’m not sure I want him to. All offseason we talked about improvement in this area and nothing’s changed has changed.

I’m not referencing you here, but I can’t just blindly assume he will take this massive leap just because he’s going to hit a 3rd year as a starter.

And I say this while being cognizant of the ambiguity post-separation. But just to be clear, I am literally just saying I am not sure I do. It’s not the same as saying “hell no, good riddance.” I can’t avoid the thought at this point.

This is one of the more unique situations we have faced in a while. Against any defense worth its salt, late in a game — with a need to sustain a drive -/ I have absolutely no confidence in him at this point.

For the most part I love what he’s done for this program, for the most part it’s been amazing to watch him play.

I am remiss, I expect to get dragged over coals - but I’ll own my thoughts.
I’ve had a similar thought as well. I think his size limits him in a lot of ways. From his willingness to run, to not being as concerned with the incoming rush, and then obviously the height to better see the field.

Would depend on who the other options are because they’d have to be pretty good to encourage Julian to either go pro or transfer.

After seeing Will Howard that’s the prototype IMO. Big, strong, willing runner, and still a sub 70% completion guy. My preference is always someone who can create with their legs. Doesn’t have to be Braxton or JT but Will Howard was enough.

Lets be real - this program has been gaslighting us about its QBs since Stroud left.

Right now this looks like an identical repeat of the 2023 debacle. The starter is mid and the others are just flat out not good.

We're in absolute survival mode until Sayin comes back (if he does).
How were we gaslit? McCord got a raw deal by fans actually, he was a very good QB. And he had every right to think he’d start the next year in hindsight. Will Howard was solid and won an NC, and Sayin was more of a complete QB last year. Didn’t have the arm strength, but his accuracy was elite. But his accuracy has taken a dip this year

Agreed that OsU is in survival mode until her returns. None of us knows what to expect from Fahey or TSC

CJ Stroud is the prototype.

Elite passer throwing to elite WR talent.

I don’t think a team needs a willing runner as much as they need a QB that can manipulate the pocket with his legs and run when need be. Thats what made Beck beat OSU, he offered a threat to move the chains when the defense was in pass defense. Thats the same with Mendoza at IU, he could get away from a pass rush and wasn’t a statue, they both just had better instincts than Sayin.

Fields and Stroud both played hurt. Maybe it's a Day thing, keeping his QBs in there trusting that they'll manage through it, until they can't.

Same happened with Will Howard. I can't remember which game. Maybe Oregon 1?
Will got hurt in The Game. He took a nasty cheap shot to the head early on and just wasn't himself the rest of the game. I still say he was concussed.

Stroud vs UGA is maybe the best QB we've ever had. Once he decided to use his legs as well, UGA was petrified. We just needed one more minute on the clock.

Fields vs Clemson and Troy vs scUM ate my other 2 for the Top 3 btw.
Umm Stroud vs Utah in the Rose Bowl is the best qb we have seen. Completely unconscious. Remember that one td he dropped in the bucket to JSN late? The camera cut to Day and he was just staring in amazement with his jaw dropped. Hottest qb I have ever seen at OSU.

Depends on what you mean by hottest.

That's an amazing game but JSN was unstoppable that game. Both were great but CJ just kept throwing it to him. UGA cheap shot Marv out of the game and CJ still tried to beat them with everything he had. We won Rose Bowl so yeah it definitely felt a lot better.

Bottom line I'm taking CJ over Howard

to clarify, not to take off but when it’s needed. 200 yards from Will Howard over 16 games was enough for example. Better instincts for sure is required.

I just think it’s tough for smaller guys to “stand in there” when you know a guy coming is 90 pounds heavier than you.

I’d take Howard over Stroud.
I have to say, I loved Howard man. He could do it all.

Not to mention how fired up he’d get and how he got in people’s faces with excitement. I will always remember him pounding on Sawyers pads fired up after that fumble return vs Texas. His leadership was just the key ingredient that year

Oh I'm definitely in agreement on that then. We don't need Mike Vick or Lamar Jackson back there, but 200-300yds for the year is all that's needed.

And give me CJ over Will EASY! Especially if you're giving me JJ to go along with him
