QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Like I said in the BigTen awards thread: the team that tOSU faces in the bowl game will have to deal with a very pissed off Terrelle Pryor.

I'd like to think JT will let him know that individual awards don't always go to the most deserving recipient(B10 COY)and just focus on what you can control. I think as long as he uses this frustration as more motivation to get better during bowl practices it will end up being a moot point. (and hopefully a big FUCK YOU to the media and coaches that doubted him)

TP is one of ten finalists for the Manning award, and one of two representatives from the Big Ten, despite not making 1st or 2nd team all conference by either the coaches or media?
Terrelle's problem is that, in voting like this, he's never being compared to his competitors - he's being compared to the hype that was showered on him before he entered college. And in comparison to that, it's hard to see how he can win.

With that being said, TP will have to content himself with knowing that there's no better collegiate QB in the Big Ten this season. By rights, he is the All-Big-Ten first string quarterback.

I was all upset that Pryor didn't make first or second team. I checked out the numbers and was surprised to see how high everyones qb rating was this year.
2010 - 6 QB's with a rating over 150 (2 over 160)
2009 - 0 qb's over 150
2008 - 0 qb's over 150
2007 - 0 qb's over 150
2006 - 1 qb over 150 (troy smith over 160)
2005 - 3 qb's over 150 (troy smith over 160)
2004 - 1 qb over 150

TP will be fine. He would rather have the Sugar Bowl MVP trophy sitting next to his Rose Bowl MVP and 3 Big Ten Title Rings.. Then next year when he wins Big Ten OPOY, he can can give it to JT and say "I am going to give my coach this award since you idiots never vote him Coach of the year".

I believe this to be a direct effect of the horrible scUM defense:biggrin:

It is a sad statement that TP has to be pissed off to play well. If he is happy does he throw the ball at receivers feet? If he is feeling good does he throw the ball over their heads? Is he going to make better reads or want to win the game more if he is pissed? If so, he should play pissed every game.

I'm sure he does play pissed every game. There was a quote somewhere like "pissed off and proud" that TP made about the teams mantra for the rest of the season after the Wisconsin game...something like that.

Using his frustration (from being left off the B10 1st & 2nd team lists) as motivation to get better during the bowl practices is one thing. Saying he'll play better because he's pissed off or that being pissed off will make him play better is another. Hopefully he does play better which I also stated but, I never said he will play better.

Maybe you'd be happier with a Heisman trophy award followed up with a debacle in the desert performance after the banquet circuit. I'm just trying to look at the bright side of a situation where a kid is bummed he was not recognized as the best amongst his peers. I don't think it's a SAD statement at all, I was just trying to put a positive spin on a potentially negative situation. Lemons, lemonade.

:osu:Go Bucks!!!

A look at Pryor's 2010 season from from The Buckeye Battle Cry:

2010 Terrelle Pryor > 2005 Troy Smith?

Welcome to Terrelle Pryor's 2010 season.

With two years of experience as the starting quarterback, three years of pre-season hype, and an MVP performance in the Rose Bowl, fans were expecting big things in 2010... National Championship things.

Obviously, the National Championship expectations did not pan out, but for the most part, Terrelle Pryor had a good year. Did he live up to expectations? At this point, that may be impossible for him no matter what he does, but he did improve statistically in almost every area.

I thought the TP/TS comparison was a good read, but as a TP apologist, I have one issue. Where he broke up Pryor's performance b/w easy and tough teams (a valid basis for analysis) he didn't seem to consider that TP's stats "suffered" (and I say that because we won all except one and that's the ultimate metric) in part because of trouble the OL, running game and (at least in the UW game) defense had against some of the better teams.

There are just games where stats don't matter and I want TP in those games. I want someone who tries to distribute the ball, but when that fails (for whatever reason - OL play, bad throws...) can/will pull it down and make things happen. If he doesn't get 14 on 4th and 10 against the Metheyes, we are having a much different bowl discussion.

I love Troy Smith, but I'd rather have Pryor and, if I'm not mistaken, Smith is on record as saying the TP would wind up as our best ever QB.

This is not meant to be a knock on Pryor at all... but I'd still take Troy Smith over TP.

TP's a good quarterback though, make no mistake about it, there's no one in the country I'd rather have under center here in Columbus. Here's to him adding a Sugar Bowl MVP to his trophy case and setting the stage for a fantastic senior season.

This comment makes little sense, given that Terrelle had one of the best seasons any Buckeye QB has ever had.

IMO, it's sad that so many Buckeye "fans" dump on Terrelle for his "failure" to meet their unreasonable expectations.
