QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Re: Just two years ago, Tressel reined in quarterback Troy Smith so he wouldn't run so much, increasing the chances he would get through the season without being injured. That approach worked wonders. Smith almost never missed a snap while leading to the Buckeyes to a perfect regular season and winning the Heisman Trophy.
Reminded of that on Tuesday, Tressel was asked how he would try to preserve Pryor throughout this season. "Hand it to the tailback more," he said.
With Wells now back in the fold, that'll be a popular alternative.

Good plan.

that's a dumb question though - with Beanie in the backfield AND with Pryor only being a freshman, this was going to happen anyway....

Just one more example of how humble he is. Although this may piss off quite a few fans who already purchased his jersey.
Then they'd have to sport the number worn by Jenkins, Doss, Carter, etc. For shame.

Troy was also not a great runner, he was a very good scrambler. I'd ask Troy to sit in the pocket more than Terrelle also.

Troy's agility was his greatest asset. He could spin and juke defenders out of their shoes, but he wasn't going to burn anyone (well, except for scUM).

Terrelle has agility and speed... and size... and a cannon-arm..... Oh, he'll get his runs in.

Besides, he's doing that computer model injury prevention thingy that's supposed to turn him into a Treadstone agent. Right?

Already the 5th hottest thread and we're not even halfway though his freshman season. Just thought I'd point that out.

I've got this feeling that it'll be the biggest thread on the forum at some point in time. :tongue2:

I'm not sure Duron will want #2 if TP even remotely keeps up with his 4 TD per game pace.

To show you what kind of unreal poise this kid has, did anyone notice that one time he spun the football in his right hand while rolling out to the right, as if he were going through a Monday morning practice drill? This kid is the real shiznit...

Link? I was at the game and was unable to see it on TV...anyone have anything on this?

Wow that's pretty impressive. Didn't see that during the game.

That is also what I've been most impressed with regarding Pryor also. He seems so mature while playing and doesn't seem to panic.

I too would like to see this spinning of the ball thing he does. Anyone know why he does this?

At around 6:30 of the 4th qtr, 1st and 10 from Troy's 27 (after their shanked punt), right after the snap as he was dropping back before he scrambled to the right...

Pryor passes Tressel test
Coach says freshman is the starting QB
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
By TODD PORTER
[email protected]

COLUMBUS No one doubted that Terrelle Pryor passed the eye test. Now he's passed the film test.

Pryor, the big freshman with the bigger reputation, is Ohio State's starting quarterback, with no qualifiers attached.

"I would call Terrelle the starting quarterback," Tressel told The Repository. "I don't know that that means 95 percent of the snaps or 65 percent, or whatever. But I would consider him that."

The Buckeye offense is different than the one that started the season. Pryor will be at quarterback, Michael Brewster, another highly touted recruit, will be at center, and All-Big Ten running back Chris "Beanie" Wells is likely to be back Saturday when OSU opens the Big Ten season against Minnesota.

Pryor started Ohio State's win against Troy on Saturday. Tressel determined he would become the first freshman quarterback to start at Ohio State in 30 years so long as Troy didn't pin the Buckeyes inside the 5-yard line.

That means that fifth-year senior Todd Boeckman, who's actually been around the program close to six years, will watch from the sidelines and get into games in situations.

OSU is preparing Pryor to take the bulk of the snaps against Minnesota. Tressel doesn't have a fine line to walk by replacing a starting senior because Boeckman has handled the demotion with class.

"The best thing about Todd is No. 1, he prefaces everything with he wants to win," Tressel said. "No. 2, he wants to do all he can do, and he'd love to do more on the field. If he felt any other way, I'd be nervous.

Now with Terrelle Pryor as the starting QB, does anyone think that the coaching staff will design some kind of New offense to fit his style of play or is it too early to try any of that. I would think they would leave things just the way they are until later in the season. I understand that his delivery may need some changes and that will come after he becomes better adjusted to the moves of his receivers and backs as they go into the heart of the schedule. Just some thoughts here.

No but the Pistol formation will be used more and more since Beanie is back. That's a scary thing to think about, and VERY hard for D's to prepare for. You stack the middle against the Pistol, and Terrelle Pryor is saying "See ya!" around the edge. You keep it spread out and Beanie is bruising up the middle for a first down and big time yardage. I can't wait to see this offense at it's best!

A 'Hello World' Moment In Columbus
Freshman sensation Pryor shines in first Buckeye start by Lloyd Vance,
POSTED: Sep 25, 2008

terrelle_pryor_5.jpg

PHILADELPHIA -- Any talk of a quarterback tandem at Ohio State probably was smashed this weekend, as it was ?Hello World? time for Buckeyes super-freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Pryor, who came to Ohio State as the nation?s number one recruit after leading Jeannette High School to Pennsylvania championships in football and basketball, not only looked the part as the Buckeyes team leader, but he was spectacular.
Pryor (6-feet-6, 230) became the first true freshman to start for the Buckeyes in 30 years, since Art Schlichter in 1978 as he led 13th ranked Ohio State (3-1) to a 28-10 victory over Troy in Columbus, Ohio.
Pryor, who hasn?t even started classes at OSU, finished with numbers of 10-16 passing for 139 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He also ran 14 times for 66 yards in a game that the Buckeyes needed to get back on track after a disappointing 35-3 defeat to USC last week.
Going into the contest versus Troy, Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel had said it was 50-50 between starting Pryor or fifth-year senior Todd Boeckman. Playing a hunch Tressel went with the dual-threat freshman and Pryor rewarded him.
The fabulous freshman looked very good in and out of the pocket throwing touchdown passes covering 39 and 16 yards to Brian Hartline, 13 yards to Rory Nicol and 38 yards to Brian Robiskie.
