QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

BrutusBobcat;975480; said:
You may be reading a tone that isn't there. I wasn't being a smart ass -- I was genuinely asking if he had seen Pryor's clips. It wasn't clear from his post what he was basing his opinion upon. No offense was intended, and I don't believe that any stepping back is needed.

As far as the RB comparison, I agree that RB projects better than QB, the Pickle being exhibit A. The comparison I was making was athletic dominance at their current level. Pryor's clips impress me in the same way that BWells did.

It does take time for a QB to develop, however, so having a year in the program is a decided advantage. Tell me -- if you think that Henton has a leg up due to one extra year in the program, then can you explain why you think (presuming that you do) Henton has the edge over Robbie Schoenhoft?

I'm going to guess that his athletic potential is a part of that, which is perfectly reasonable.

My "take a step back" comment was in regards to this:

"Are you saying this having seen Pryor's clips? If not, watch some of them and your opinion may change. Henton is still early in his development, and Pryor has far superior physical tools right now."

You are suggesting that a highlight film, which mostly shows him running over and by people with a few passes sprinkled in, is enough to overcome 2 years in the program. Henton has superior fundamentals, a better grasp of the playbook, and some game reps. Remember, not even Vince came in and won the job right away.

Regarding Robbie, I think Henton is further along due to his mechanics; another edge Henton has over Pryor.

When August 2009 rolls around, Rob Schoenhoft will be entering his fourth year in the program, Antonio Henton will be entering his third, Joe Bauserman will be entering his third as well, and Pryor will be entering his second. Pryor will have as good a shot at starting as any of the other QBs.
Correction. Starting 2009, Schonehoft will be entering his fifth year, and Henton will be entering his fourth, including their respective red-shirt years.

Apples, meet oranges.

Troy was already the established starter at the end of the 2005 season and was entering his fifth year in the program, so no. Todd Boeckman is the established starter now, also five years into the program (counting greyshirt) and given how he has played this year, I don't expect in any way at all that Pryor would start over him in Fall 2008. It is as unlikely as the scenario you posted.

Actually, I was using your logic in that instance. It's good to see you understand how lacking it was. Also rather ironic you state "apples and oranges" given the example you used with Beanie and Pittman.

#1) Henton will have had FOUR years in the system to Pryors 2. HUGE advantage for Henton.

#2) To put Henton on the level of Maurice Wells is ridiculous. Not knocking Maurice.

#3) To compare the amount of difficulty it takes to come in and play QB to RB is also ridiculous IMO. Not knocking how hard it is to become a RB.

Basically it seems your point is he has more physcial tools and there wont be a solid "starter" and for that he has more of a chance than "normal." I can agree with that.

OSU football recruiting: Weekend visit by top QB is high priority

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 3:41 AM
By Tim May

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
  • Pryor calculations
  • Terrelle Pryor's career stats as a high school quarterback in Jeannette, Pa.:
  • Record as a starter: 31-4
  • Passing: 195 of 340, 3,472 yards, 33 TDs
  • Rushing: 334 attempts, 3,045 yards, 55 TDs
  • Total yards: 6,517 (186.2 per game, while usually playing one half)
  • Source: Josh Funk of Pennlive.com

This will be a big weekend for the Ohio State football program. The top-ranked Buckeyes' Big Ten game against Wisconsin on Saturday? Yeah, that too.
Ohio State also will play host to the top-ranked high school prospect in the country. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor, whom some have labeled the next Vince Young, is scheduled to make his official visit starting Saturday.

Almost 10 ypc for his high school career. :yow1:

By the way, per Jeremy Crabtree on Rivals Radio this morning:
  • He thinks OSU is still the leader in the clubhouse for Pryor's services, but...
  • He said to watch out for the official visits - especially to Florida and WVU if they materialize.
Crabtree then ticked me off - he said he would love to see what Pryor could do in WVU/UF offenses where he could utilize his ability to run. I nearly choked my steering wheel upon hearing this after reflecting what Troy did his sophomore and junior years.

Crabtree then realized how dumb he sounded and admitted that Pryor could do the same things in the Ohio State offense.

i think the transition from football to basketball wont be that big of a jump for an athlete like pryor....considering Jim Tressel keeps the football team in tip top shape...pryor will get twice the conditioning, and i think could come into bball season in the best shape of all of the players...(on any team he plays for)

disagree, its a different "shape"
gamble was going to do, heyward was going to do it.
in the tressel era salley was the only one who did it on an eh team

Agree you can play football for 15 weeks, then go to basketball practice and still ache after the first day...It is different muscles and different conditioning

2007 WPIAL Football Playoffs: Jeannette an offensive force
Friday, November 02, 2007
By Miek White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Matt Freed/Post-Gazette
Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor has compiled 1,721 yards of offense this season with 12 passing touchdowns and 16 rushing scores.

ning WPIAL and PIAA championships in impressive fashion is the only way to be revered and remembered. It's the only way to earn a spot in WPIAL lore. At least that's the message coach Ray Reitz has been preaching to his Jeannette High School football team. He insists greatness is bestowed upon teams only at the end of the postseason. But in terms of the regular season, the bus that is the Jeannette offense already has gotten off at the greatness exit. It wouldn't be an overstatement to call Jeannette's offense the greatest in the WPIAL in the past half-century, and at least one of the greatest in the 101-year history of the league.

Cont....

Jeannette has forced the PIAA mercy rule in all nine games. Under the rule, the clock runs continuously when a team goes ahead by 35 points or more in the second half.

Pryor has rushed for 696 yards and thrown for 1,012. He is averaging 14.8 yards on the ground and 22.5 per completion.

Jeannette has attempted only seven punts all season and not once in the past five games.

Terrelle Pryor's Recruiting Diary: Seton-LaSalle tonight, Ohio State tomorrow

Friday, November 02, 2007

Jeannette High School quarterback/defensive back Terrelle Pryor is ranked the No. 1 player in the country by several scouting services and is being recruited by colleges nationwide. Throughout the season and until he makes a college decision, the Post-Gazette will periodically run a diary from Pryor, as told to sports writer Mike White. Halloween was Wednesday night, but I went to the mall to get new shoes [sneakers] for this weekend.
I'm making my first official visit to Ohio State, and I wanted some new shoes to look good up there.
[Ohio State football coach] Jim Tressel and [basketball coach] Thad Matta came to our game last Thursday against Greensburg Central Catholic. They flew in on a jet and went back right after the game. Coach Tressel said it was only about a half-hour flight.
I don't feel any differently about Ohio State just because they both came to the game. But it is good to see the basketball coach took time to come down here. He ended his practice early so he could get here.

Terrelle Pryor's planned visit to Ohio State for the football game Saturday has been well publicized, as has the unlikelihood of him making a commitment to any school this soon.
But if Pryor, the Jeanette, Pa., senior quarterback generally regarded as the top prospect in the nation, would commit, that would make 14 recruits for Ohio State's 2008 class. It's an amazing number given that as recently as last spring, coach Jim Tressel was saying he expected 13, 14 or 15.
