QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Great atmosphere in south stands. Pryor walked by a few times and he seemed to always have a smile on his face. He was definately feeling the love from the fans. I also saw him after the game, down by the players while they were singing Carmen Ohio. He seemed into the traditions, chants, and all the attention he was getting. The crowd stepped up in the 3rd quarter. The players really fed off of it so I don't know what some people are talking about. Not much to compare it to this year with such a watered-down home schedule, but definately the best home crowd of the year. Don't think he's going to pull the trigger anytime soon, but I don't know how he couldn't be impressed with that asmosphere today.

The crowd did indeed seem really, really quiet on the BTN. They definitely didn't have the crowd miked. Even when they scanned the crowd with the camera, they seemed to choose sections during breaks in the action where everyone was just sitting quietly.

REALLY glad to hear it wasn't as it seemed... but figured it wasn't. Hope Pryor had an amazing visit.

Question

I was wondering since TP is a two sport athlete, could he count against Basketball during his redshirt football year? Like Oltorick and baseball.

My understanding is that if a player takes a scholarship for another sport, that they aren't charged against Football until they play in a game. If TP takes a couple of years to develop before he sees live action, can he use a basketball scholarship until then, and is that were we might be picking up extra numbers this year? I don't know how many 'ships Matta has, I am just throwing it out there.

I believe the tailback from Katie, Texas was in the same boat but with wrestling.

It would be sweet to wrap up the number 1 football recruit and not have it count against you until they are ready to step on the field.

For some reason years ago I remember reading that the scholarship counts against the highest grossing sport or something to that effect. So would be football.

The crowd came alive after Wisconsin took the lead. Prior to that it was an average Ohio State crowd waiting (expecting?) foe something good to happen.

Once Wisconsin got the lead the crowd got LOUD when Wisconsin had the ball. We went down by 7 at the 6:53 mark of the 3rd quarter (I believe). From that point on the crowd was on its feet until the game was no longer in doubt. Not as good as the Michigan game last year but once it came alive it was the best crowd this year and the team seemed to feed off of it. Brian Hartline in particular loves it when the crowd gets amped. The more we cheer the more he asks for more.

What I'd like to see from the crowd which probably won't happen is for the people in the expensive seats between the 20's to match the enthusiasm of the people that sit outside the 20s and in the end zones. Perhaps this is simply too much to ask of those folks though.

I love it when he does that, it was either him or possibly Jenkins (?) who even did it to the Wipe Out last weekend.

Those people earned those tickets 50 years ago! I agree I wish it would be a different arrangement, but those people donate so much money it's sick. On a related note, I heard just today that the oldest baby boomers are now 61 with the youngest being 43. 20 years from now, there may be a shorter list for premium tickets :wink2:.

I don't see any scenario where Pryor did not enjoy himself this afternoon.

This argument is riddled with several questionable assumptions. For one, what happens if more people attend Ohio State now than 50 years ago?

There is no doubt in my mind that you are correct. It was a useless fact to throw around. You also have folks like myself primed to re-enroll at a regional school (OSU Lima) that didn't finish first time thru. Who are then eligible for season tickets, a la one of my procrastinating friends.

The nation's No. 1 recruit, a quarterback from Jeannette, Pa., made his official visit to Columbus on Saturday and with the game in hand, he was greeted with a "Pryor, Pryor" chant from the stands and acknowledged the crowd.

"It was good," Pryor said of the reception from the fans.

Not very enlightening, but Pryor was certainly taking it all in while surrounded by nine of the 13 oral commitments from Ohio State's class of 2008. As the team sang "Carmen, Ohio" after the win, offensive line recruit Michael Brewster, who has been leading the charge to build the rest of the class, was mouthing the words. Pryor shielded his eyes from the sun while trying to read the words to the song on the end zone videoboard, but when the song ended, and all the commits raised their arms for the "O-HI-O," Cincinnati receiver DeVier Posey gave Pryor a smile while Pryor kept his hands at his sides.

"I had to explain to him what it was," Posey said.

Pryor has said several times he doesn't plan to announce his commitment for several months. But he did autograph an Ohio State mini-helmet after the game.

Defensive tackle Willie Mobley from Minnesota also made an official visit Saturday, and said he expects to announce his decision in a couple days.

Understood JW. I guess my question is What's to stop OSU from giving a basketball scholarship for his RS year and say that he's a walkon for Football? I understand that he may be needed in 2008, but I think that the conventional wisdom has him redshirting in '08 and a lot more scholarships in '09. Granted, I know nothing of the BBall 'ships and it might not make sense that way.

Bluffton - Once they play they definitely count against Football. The NCAA has a hierarchy of where 'ships count. Football is at the top, followed by basketball. After that, I'm not sure which is the more important in their eyes. I am also pretty sure that you can have an athlete that is on scholarship for another sport practice with the team and not count against the football limit until he sees game action. Like the two athletes that are mentioned above.

Since it's never come up before, I guess it's all pretty theoretical in nature.

I believe that he would still count as a football schollie if he does as you say.
