QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

I would be surprised if the immediate plans are anything but "staying at Ohio State and competing for a starting job."

Fify
Idk if he's staying strictly to only play QB. I'm sure a convo was had that if his shoulder doesn't heal to where he can't make all of the throws, he still can be used in some capacity. I don't think a kid just comes back to a school without knowing that he could get some type of PT.

I have no doubt that's been a conversation and that's in Braxton mind, but I think his "immediate" plans will be to compete at quarterback. If it becomes obvious he's not going to be the starter, then we'll hear about a position change.

Report: Ohio State QB Braxton Miller to announce his plans next week

USATSI_8344567.jpg

'Friends, Buckeyes, countrymen, lend me your wild rumors and speculation!'

Sound the Speculation Siren! Braxton Miller is sending cryptic text messages to reporters!

Yes, on the same day that Ohio State coach Urban Meyer gave an update saying both Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett were nearing full health, Miller was having a conversation of his own, and it was rather open-ended.

Miller was contacted by The Columbus Dispatch's Tim May, and May asked Miller about his plans after receiving good news from his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, on Wednesday. Miller's response was that he would announce his immediate plans next week.

What are Miller's immediate plans? Well, they could be anything, really.

Miller could have immediate plans to go to Chipotle. He might just be announcing that he'll be able to return to practice next week and compete for the starting quarterback job. Maybe he'll announce that he's joining the Big 12 as its 11th member.

Or he could make an announcement that he's transferring.

Plenty of people at Ohio State -- from Meyer to athletic director Gene Smith -- have said Miller will be back with the Buckeyes next season, but Miller himself has never come out and formally announced his intentions for the 2015 season. As a graduate, if Miller decided to transfer, he'd be immediately eligible at his new school.

And were he to transfer, Miller would not have any shortage of options at his disposal. Plenty of teams would be thrilled at the prospect of having Miller as their quarterback next season.

But is that what Miller is going to announce?

Pure speculation here: I'm guessing that:

1) shoulder may not be 100% for passing

2) wants to stay at Ohio State

3) he has seen the problems other Ohio State QBs have had in the NFL (i.e. Pryor and Smith)

4) wants to optimize his chances for an NFL career

5) so he's opting to switch positions (i.e. H-Back or WR)

I'm just going to assume Cardale Jones-level trolling and keep an open mind in general.
Everything up to this point has been repetition that he's serious about competing for the QB job...

OHIO STATE'S BRAXTON MILLER, AFTER SURGERY

55555_h.jpg,qitok=2_ac2NJG.pagespeed.ce.1rNuYa2n8f.jpg

Cleared for takeoff.

That’s what we hope to hear about Braxton Miller’s current status. After two surgeries on his right shoulder for torn cartilage, we patiently await an announcement this week that will ideally be the green light.

It's been almost a year since his most recent operation last August, and Miller has been hard at work to come back on the field like he never left. So, what has he been busy doing during his time away? Let's review what has happened over the past 10-and-a half months.

Still think a transfer to Houston would have been best for all parties, but I can't complain about a great Buckeye coming back to play his final season in the Shoe.

I, too, am kind of surprised that he didn't go to Houston, where he could have accumulated a MILLION yards and TDs in a system he already knows. All of that said, the closer we get to the season opener, the more I'm convinced that Urban will hand Braxton the keys to the Ferrari and he'll be a Heisman frontrunner. His critics seem to have really short memories about what Braxton accomplished, and how well he actually compares to the other two in terms of offensive efficiency. I also think that a year on the sidelines is exactly what he needed--an opportunity to see the game from a different perspective. He'll never be Troy Smith in terms of passing accuracy. But I do think he'll be much improved from 2013. He has a rifle for an arm, folks are selling him short on his arm strength. Strength has never been the issue. He just needs to tighten up some of those intermediate routes -- especially over the middle of the field and develop a little touch on the long ball.

Furthermore, am I the only one who doesn't think he would be a very good WR? He's not built for that position, IMO. There are certainly some fun things we could do with him on end arounds like we do with Jalin and Dontre. I just don't see why you'd sign him up to take that kind of pounding. After VaTech, we don't play a real game until late October. So I see no reason not to let him be our starter entering the season and watch what happens...

My guess is... he is announcing that the shoulder is not QB ready.. so he's going to play either the slot or WR
and he is going to be AMAZING
Yep. I think he wants to make it clear to everyone that he's changing positions and that it is his decision to do so, to avoid any possible controversy or negativity towards the coaching staff.

Just not sure how he comes out of camp starting after 2 labrum surgeries in two years but I hope he does come in and reclaim the spot.

We knew he was sticking around and if it doesn't work out at QB then his athleticism will certainly be put to good use regardless.

Any rate great to hear he's staying home!
