QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

Urban Meyer: QBs Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett nearing full health

Urban-Meyer-David-Letterman-Late-Show-Video.jpg

Urban Meyer said Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett are nearing 100 percent health.

Braxton Miller is "pretty close to full speed," Meyer said, adding that J.T. Barrett is "close to 95 percent" after undergoing ankle surgery to repair the damage from his season-ending injury. Miller was running during spring practice, but could not throw because of his injured shoulder. Barrett could throw the ball this spring but did not run.

Report: Ohio State QB Braxton Miller to announce his plans next week

USATSI_8344567.jpg

'Friends, Buckeyes, countrymen, lend me your wild rumors and speculation!'

Sound the Speculation Siren! Braxton Miller is sending cryptic text messages to reporters!

Yes, on the same day that Ohio State coach Urban Meyer gave an update saying both Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett were nearing full health, Miller was having a conversation of his own, and it was rather open-ended.

Miller was contacted by The Columbus Dispatch's Tim May, and May asked Miller about his plans after receiving good news from his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, on Wednesday. Miller's response was that he would announce his immediate plans next week.

What are Miller's immediate plans? Well, they could be anything, really.

Miller could have immediate plans to go to Chipotle. He might just be announcing that he'll be able to return to practice next week and compete for the starting quarterback job. Maybe he'll announce that he's joining the Big 12 as its 11th member.

Or he could make an announcement that he's transferring.

Plenty of people at Ohio State -- from Meyer to athletic director Gene Smith -- have said Miller will be back with the Buckeyes next season, but Miller himself has never come out and formally announced his intentions for the 2015 season. As a graduate, if Miller decided to transfer, he'd be immediately eligible at his new school.

And were he to transfer, Miller would not have any shortage of options at his disposal. Plenty of teams would be thrilled at the prospect of having Miller as their quarterback next season.

But is that what Miller is going to announce?

Pure speculation here: I'm guessing that:

1) shoulder may not be 100% for passing

2) wants to stay at Ohio State

3) he has seen the problems other Ohio State QBs have had in the NFL (i.e. Pryor and Smith)

4) wants to optimize his chances for an NFL career

5) so he's opting to switch positions (i.e. H-Back or WR)

Braxton Miller told @TIM_MAYsports he'll announce his plans next week. Ohio St AD Gene Smith told me today he expects Miller to stay at OSU

Would be shocked if Miller's "immediate plans" announcement next week isn't a three sentence release from OSU saying the QB is back at 100%.

Texas still needs a QB and Strong has got to be on a very hot seat. He's a grad student so he could potentially go to another Big Ten school. FSU has no rules, Alabama needs a QB and has an All World left tackle and a talented RB to work with.

It's not like there aren't people out there who could be sending out feelers as I write...

Have a real hard time thinking he'd transfer this late in the game.

In all seriousness, this. Why wait this late if you are going to do it? That would leave him about a month to learn a completely new playbook and system in time, all the while he would be competing for a starting job the same as if he stayed in the system he knows. He isn't going anywhere.

Anyone know what constitutes 'tampering' in college? Can a Texas, Oregon, FSU, etc call a kid at another school? I seem to remember that they cannot, but there is too much 'switching' not to believe that coaches are recruiting players that can 'move on' and be eligible. Especially with this loophole of the graduate eligibility. Thanks to all. Gotta believe that this will all settle out, tOSU will have zero problem with the quarterback situation, and all the QBs will be happy with their minutes. Go Bucks
