QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

ZachDumas said:
Can you figure out which movie it comes from?

Troy Smith's Lawyer's Secretary: Um, Mr. Smith is on the phone and is in trouble again and he needs your legal advice...

Smith's Lawyer grabs the phone and screams into the receiver: Stop breaking the rules, ASSHOLE!!!

Note: Quote slightly modified to fit current situation.
Liar Liar.

Just my two cents...not that it means much, but I have to vent somewhere.

First and foremost, my colleagues are having a great day laughing at how the sky is falling over there on Bucknuts the past two days.

On the topic at hand...A rule is a rule and IF TS broke the rule than he needs to live with the consequence. This rule is ridiculous, and it needs changed. I highly doubt the NCAA will penalize TS from anymore games or practice.

I think the big issue here will be how Coach T interprets this misunderstanding. IF TS went behind both the coaching staff and the administrations' backs, then I can actually see JT mandating an additional penalty to TS. Our new AD has made it clear internally and externally that he will not put up with anymore of this nonsense.

Now, I hope and pray that TS GROWS up! Asking permission to go to this sort of camp is not a tough thing to do. If he knew that he would not be permitted, then shame on TS.

To recap - THIS RULE IS RIDICULOUS!

Anyway...just my two cents.

Well to tell the truth if Smith can't play in the Texas game I will be worried. Zwick is a good replacement but I think we need our best players for the Texas game and think Smith is the best for our current offense. I agree with stagetennis though it really depends on the situation. If he knew he wouldnt be allowed to go and went anyways then he needs penalized. If it was a misunderstanding then alright lesson learned be more careful in the future. I wouldn't say the sky is falling if he can't play but I will be more worried about the Texas game without him.

As for the third-party parking story, with all due respect to everyone who relayed this, do we really know that it took place or is it urban legend? Even if he was parked in an "A" parking bay, we don't know why. Heck, if it was the last week of summer quarter when this happened, those bays should be empty. Moreover, if he is in the wrong space, he'll get ticketed just like any other student in a faculty space.

More food for thought--- When I went to OSU (not too long ago) parking was open dunring the summer. By that I mean that reserved lots, except at the hospital, were considered open to the public. With less people actually on campus, the university saw no need to have hundreds of reserved spots for faculty sitting empty and making students taking a summer course load walk further distances than needed. This may have changed.

Someone asked earlier, but I never saw an answer (again we have such little info to necessitate this much chatter)---- Do we know for certain Troy Smith is even taking summer courses? I keep hearing IF he missed class, yada yada yada. Not once have I heard he even was taking summer classes. Just wondering.

The camp in question was during spring quarter. The last week before our finals, when all schools on semesters have been out for 3+ weeks. That's why other QBs didn't have to worry about missing class. That said, that week is often used for voluntary review sessions, and most students don't schedule Friday classes in the first place. Communication department doesn't have any classes on Friday.

Do you know anyone who has attended Ohio State that did not park in a faculty space at least once while attending school? Please guys, this is a kid in college.
It is my friend who is also obsessed with OSU football and attends there, he has no reason to make up such details to me. If you don't believe him I guess a quick way of telling would be to check the make of his car as someone on here would likely know that since there are plenty of students. Believe it if you want i don't care.... but please don't Excuse it.
Under normal circumstances i'd be right there with you and the other bposter who shouted 'big deal' as its something i've done myself to run into the office to check my campus mailbox. It is simply the timeing, it was done yesterday any other time and i'd be joining you on the big deal, but to me parking there yesterday is one.

That is not a 'sky is falling' post. Check my history, i've been a Smith supporter from Day 1 (or maybe it was day 3 :) ) I want nothing more then this to all blow by and watch him not only outpass, but also outrun in VY in both yards and TDs.... (also a win would be nice to I guess :)) Sept. 10th to get people to scratch their heads.

I simply found it 'news-worthy' with the timing and POSSIBLY a a warning sign. It is 3rd party though and I do have under 300 post, so I welcome it to be split off into the rumor mill.

fellas smith needs to take the blame on this one, he needs to get permission to attend anything that causes him to miss class. The way I've heard it he didn't even approach Jt and staff about it so it completely on him.
IF there is any blame to be taken then yes, the wrong-doer should take the blame. However, the only person he needs written permission from is the AD. Should he have asked JT, sure. Will he be in the doghouse if he didn't? Sure. But it would have no affect on the violation. If he didn't get authorization from the AD......Now that is a different bag of apples.

Didn't see the above post reference missing class. My bad....Carry on. :)

Whoa...I did not say that you were a "sky is falling kind of guy", BW141, and I am well aware that you aren't from your posting history and I respect the contribution you make here very much. I hope you are not feeling offended because that was not my intent.

Nevertheless, it is not a matter of believing you or your friend, my point is that we do not have all the facts and I can tell you from the PMs etc I have received, there's a lot of people here who agree with me. It could well be that Smith parked there for a perfectly legitimate reason. Perhaps on that day it was okay to park anywhere when he arrived to park, we've all seen that during our time at Ohio State. But people read this and then make a judgement about Troy Smith that shouldn't be made.

I'm not saying you were wrong to post this or that your friend was not telling the truth. I'm saying that we must be very careful in drawing conclusions about Smith because his car was in an A parking place.

Alright I can agree to you about the jumping to conclussions as I agree that I did that fairly quickly, I was really more irritated by the previous poster who quoted the 'news' reaction. I think I am done with this thread though until..

Friday, Gene Smith will be on TheFan so maybe he'll shed some light on everything then.

Slobber-

The point you make is he should accept the blame. I would submit to you the following:

1. I don't see anywhere Troy has said he would not accpet any responsibility. In fact, we haven't even heard from TS on any of this yet. His past experience points to him being a young man willing to accept consequences.

2. We, again owing to a complete lack of verified info, don't know if Troy missed any classes. So lets wait until we know more on that front before we paint him as this bad guy with a huge ego only thinking of himself.

3. While accepting this may be an NCAA rule, and further accepting it may have been broken, IF Troy didn't know this was a rule (and honestly not many here had heard of it) how exactly should he have known the necessary procedure required to not break the rule? If he knew the rule, it can reasonably be expected he would know the procedure--- and here again knowing his previous situation, I find it unlikely that he thought to himself, 'screw OSU and the NCAA, I want to go so I'm going-- consequences be damned'. That doesn't make much sense to jepordize his eligibility after sticking around and accepting his previous punishment. He WANTS to play QB at OSU and make the pros--- not to be suspended, lose out on eligibility or further drown himself on the depth chart.

4. WE KNOW NOTHING! All of our knowledge is second or third hand. We need to reserve judgement until it has been proven, by actual facts (i.e- the ongoing OSU investigation), that Troy has murdered, raped, and plundered. Not by rumor and inuendo or by small slivers of info that may or may not prove to be true.
