Troy remained in the game after the confrontation...so that was interesting.Doesn't need to be. But he needs to understand that three fumbles, an awful pick and a safety are not acceptable in a game with division winning/losing consequences.
Alex Smith wasn't going to win the game either, so I don't disagree with his likely point, but still.
Alex Smith came on for a benched Troy Smith in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Rams and completed 10-of-15 passes for 120 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
It was a strange day all around for the Niners. Troy Smith got into a screaming match with coach Mike Singletary on the sideline in the third quarter, but wasn't pulled until midway through the fourth quarter with the team down 22-14. Alex Smith moved the team well for a field goal, but then couldn't get away from a sack and fumbled away a potential game-tying drive. It's obvious that neither quarterback -- or Singletary -- are the answer here. Dec. 26 - 6:03 pm et
Following the 49ers' loss to the St. Louis Rams (an ugly 25-17 elimination party), Jed York didn't exactly endorse his head coach, and it seemed likely that Mike Singletary would be fired.
It appears to have actually happened -- Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that York informed him Singletary is out as 49ers head coach and Jim Tomsula, the defensive line coach, will take over in the interim. According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network is reporting that Singletary "refused to resign," which either means he's too stubborn to give up on a lost season or he doesn't want to lose out on whatever they owe him.

They just have no discipline and their staff lost credibility a long time ago. Their problems are all mental (penalties and mental/positioning errors - not talent).
A coaching change was due such a long time ago it's not even funny. They could use a Gruden-type. Someone who knows what to do with talent.
