reps would help a lot of TS problems. Not QB carosels and coaching changes. He's a good QB, but not knowing your future week in and week out puts to much pressure on you.

yup, how good would you play after getting your teams some wins, and playing well, to oh this asshole is better now, later Troy. back to ok this asshole sucks go ahead troy, oh and you have no running game. troy has now been screwed by 2 teams.

You have got to be kidding me. Troy Smith has to have one of the quickest releases because of the lines lack of blocking. There were numerous false start penalties and sacks given up. The line almost called back his 60 yard TD pass due to what should have been a false start. He fumbled two key snaps because of his center (a key cog of the line).

Like they say "it all starts up front." Yes the coaching is terrible, but the line sucks just as much.

I already addressed that comment.

Talent-wise they're fine. They need someone to coach them. They're also without their starting LT, Joe Staley.

They have a solid LT, a rookie LG with a lot of potential who has shown he can play at this level (Iupati) and a 20-year old RT who has shown that he can play at this level (Anthony Davis - hasn't shown quite as much as Iupati when I've been able to watch, but still has shown that he'll be a player). Those three pieces are a very solid and young group to build around if they can get someone to coach.

I agree. It's funny how some QBs that suck (Alex Smith and Jason Campbell immediately come to mind) are the beneficiaries of this explanation, and yet other QBs to whom this also applies never are given this benefit of the doubt.

The old Troy Smith

Former Ravens quarterback Troy Smith made a big mistake Sunday in his heated argument with his coach, and it will probably end his career in the National Football League. There had better be some extreme circumstances for Smith to get into an argument with Singletary.

I'm not a big fan of Singletary as a head coach, but he was the only one to give Smith another opportunity after the Ravens cut him at the beginning of the season. Whatever happened could have been handled off the sidelines. Smith, though, has always had a cockiness about him, and was hard-headed even when he was here in Baltimore. I had hoped he would get his football life together in San Francisco, that a new start would bring out all his talents.

Instead, what I saw was the old Smith, the one who seemed to thrive on confrontation.

Cockiness? Thrive on confrontation?

Sorry, but this is the first I think ANY of us are hearing about this.
Most backup QB's in the NFL are anything but "cocky".

Perhaps if the word confrontation had been changed to "competition" then I might begin to agree.

Beyond that... garbage piece.

The only one whose NFL career is over is Singletary.

He's a hall of fame player with coaching experience and he's only 52 years old. His career is not over unless he doesn't want to coach any more. He'll have multiple offers to join staffs as an assistant.

I think that's removing Troy of any stake in his career to date. The fact is, he's had chances with two teams. One released him, and the other hasn't seen fit to make him their full time starter. Not yet, anyway.

He had two good starts but got progressively worse with each successive start. Go look at his numbers. You won't last in the NFL completing less than 50% of your passes and throwing as many picks as TDs. The Niners have plenty of flaws but that doesn't mean Troy's play hasn't been one of them.

I'd love to see him get another shot this Sunday to end on a high note but to this point in his career he simply hasn't been the player many of us had hoped in the NFL. Frankly, those expectations were probably too high based on our appreciation of him. He was drafted at the end of the 5th round. The next year the Ravens took a QB in the first round. That spoke volumes.

I wish him the best. :osu:

I agree with all of this. I would love to see Troy succeed, but he hasn't shown me that he can be a starter in the NFL.
