Smith appreciates QBs who led way

Troy Smith recently read a book about the history of black quarterbacks in pro football.
Niners quarterback Troy Smith recently put down a book, but only because he'd run out of pages to read. It was "Third and a Mile," a book about the "trials and triumphs of the black quarterback."
If author William C. Rhoden decides to write a sequel, Smith just helped write a new chapter for him.
The 49ers-Buccaneers game last Sunday is believed to have been the first in NFL history featuring two black head coaches - Mike Singletary of the 49ers and Raheem Morris of the Bucs - with two black starting quarterbacks - Smith and Josh Freeman.
As for Smith, he's the first black quarterback to start for the 49ers.
"Really?" Smith asked when told about his place in NFL and 49ers history.
