QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

I blame myself for starting him over Fitzpatrick

He's got nothing today. Receivers having trouble getting open, offensive line is getting blown up, Frank Gore having trouble running and dropped a screen that would have gone for big yardage.

Basically, Troy is screwed out their today. Hopefully he has some 4th quarter magic left. Thats when he's done his most damage.

I wouldn't say awful he was bad but most of that bad from forcing stuff ion the 4th qtr. The whole offense was bad that game. If Singletary was smart he'd give Troy another 2 or 3 games to prove one way or the other which is the true Troy Smith at QB good Troy, bad Troy or even average Troy but those writing him off as being figured out and not a good Qb. Not here but the niners main forum is just as bad as those calling him a savior after the first 2 games.

Troy was awful today. He didn't have a ton of help, but still.

I agree.... to an extent. Certainly, when you take on the role as the starting QB you take responsibility for the offense's performance as a whole. The O-line was terrible and there were a lot of dropped passes. That being said, Troy forced a lot of throws in the 4th quarter and his accuracy throughout the game was not great. He didn't look like he was on the same page with his receivers all game.

It would be absolutely silly to put Alex Smith in right now. It is going to be hard for any QB to thrive under the depleted O-line that the 49ers are starting right now.

Troy Smith to start again; Singletary's bad coaching continues
19

-A relatively defiant Mike Singletary began with a lengthy opening statement saying that he was thankful to be the 49ers head coach, and then he said that everything that happened in the team's 21-0 loss to Tampa Bay was his fault. He was asked if he was doing a good job, and he said, "Am I doing good job at 3-7? No. I wouldn't dare say that. But it's not over yet."

-Singletary said Troy Smith would get the start against Arizona next Monday night in Arizona.

-Even with his defiant statements, Singletary doesn't appear willing to make lineup changes. He was asked about replacing right guard Chilo Rachal with Adam Snyder and he said no, despite Rachal's break downs.

-Singletary admitted that his team didn't react well with the changes the Bucs made.

-The 49ers have given up eleven sacks in last two games.

Yup. It was very bad, turned the channel. They are both transplants and douchebags.
I wouldn't mind if that's all they were, transplants, I can't listen to the two of them because they are idiots. Torg does know some about hockey, but beyond that when it comes to sports, both are fools. Really it's not just about sports, just listen to the two of them talk, I can't believe that they are on the radio.

It's pitiful, but I can't stand to listen to them for more than a few minutes at a time. I find myself listening to John Corby, because, though I find sports talk more interesting, at least he is literate.

As for Troy, I'm glad he's getting another shot. Everyone has bad games, and Troy, the offense and the coaching staff all had bad days. I hope the 49ers give Troy the rest of the year to show what he has. They know what they have in Alex Smith (a lot of money wasted) at least find out if Troy might be the answer. At least we will all know he had his shot, and can either cheer for him to be a star, or admit that he was one of the all-time great Buckeyes, and move on.

Last chance for Troy Smith

Mike Singletary was decisive in tapping Troy Smith to play Monday against the Cardinals. But he hinted this week that the game would be a make-or-break opportunity for the former Heisman Trophy winner.

"Last week Troy was coming off two wins and you want to ride that," Singletary said on Wednesday. "This is the game where we have to take a step back and look at how he responds during this game and how he does. We'll see how it goes."

He also said he would not hesitate to go back to Alex Smith, who is fully recovered from his shoulder injury, if Troy Smith falters. "If Troy is the guy that is helping us win, then he's going to play," Singletary said. "If he is not, then somebody else is going to play."
