QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Looks like the Bay Area is finding out what we've long known: give TS a chance and all he will do is make plays and win ballgames.

Singletary should be locked up in Charlie Manson's cell on San Quentin if he dare starts Alex Leaf next week.

First off, Troy looks like he's in the best shape of his life. He's up to 225 and he's cut. Well done.

Second, he really landed in a great spot. The Niners have some talent, they play in a weak division, and they really need someone to step up at the QB position.

He's off to a great start there. :)

Troy had to beat the odds to become the Buckeyes' starter. All he did with the opportunity was win the Heisman Trophy.

Let's hope he has beaten the odds enough to be the Niners' starter for the remainder of the season. I'm sure if he is, he'll do well enough to relegate Alex Smith to the scrap heap. (Alex doesn't need to worry, as the #1 pick money is enough he'll be able to do nothing but play golf and drink Screaming Eagle the rest of his life.)

I couldn't honestly be happier for any Buckeye than I am of Troy Smith. He has always defied the odds from being the last buckeye recruit to overcoming all the nfl scouts doubts about his height. For a guy who's only really played one bad game in his career (Florida) he sure has a lot of doubters. He had the starting spot lined up in Baltimore until he had tonsilitus and that gave the job to Flacco. I can't describe how fun it was to watch him sling the ball around candlestick field tonight. He gives you everything he's got on every play, wow i cant believe the Ravens passed on giving him a shot.

Any team in the league could have had him for a pittance, every single one of them passed. It's not "some" teams, every team passed on him. He's obviously lacking something that internet message board posters don't or refuse to see. He is what he is, a very good to borderline great college QB who is a career NFL backup.

Exactly.

Amazingly, despite being all that, he was drafted in the 5th round. Apparently, I'm not the only one who didn't see him as a can't miss prospect.

I'm not going to argue with blind homerism. Again, I love Troy the Buckeye, but I thought it would be an uphill battle for him to be a star in the NFL. Sue me. :roll1:

He's the next doug flutie...I think he'll bounce around a lot but never really given a fair chance at being the guy.

Love Troy, but WTF????

Nate Davis looked great in the pre-season? WTH is San Fran thinking?

The quarterback position more than any other relies on intangibles. Just let him have 1 damn opportunity. Just 1 chance and I could be content to remember him as a great college QB and nothing more.

Just a little reminder of some recent comments about Troy's potential and him signing with the 9ers.
